A Little Bit of Wisdom….
We make a living
by what we get.
We make a life
by what we give.

Sunday Scripture Reflections
Reading 1 Joshua 24:1-2a,15-17,18b
Domingo Escritura Reflexions
Lectura 1 Josue 24:1-2a,15-17,18b
Parents sometimes use "reverse psychology" to encourage their children to make the right choices. That
is what Joshua, the new leader of the Israelites, does
in this reading. He wants them to make a firm commitment to serve God alone. So he tells them that
they can choose to serve other gods. However, he
insists that he and his family will remain faithful to the
one God who brought the Israelites out of slavery.
By reminding the people of all God has done for
them, Joshua guides the tribes of Israel to be faithful
to the Lord. When we remember all that God has
done for us, we too renew our faith in the God who
saves us
Reading 2 Ephesians 5:21-32
Lectura 2 Efesios 5:21-32
If Saint Paul had any idea how much confusion his
letter to the Ephesians might cause centuries after it
was composed, he might have re-written it. His primary message is that the relationship between Christ
and his Church is like a human marriage. Husbands
and wives are "made into one," just as Christ and his
Church are one body. Marriage partners are called
by God to show mutual love, respect and care. In
doing so, they reflect the love Jesus has for all who
follow him.
respeto y cuidado. Al hacer eso reflejan el amor que
Jesús tiene por los que lo siguen.
When husbands and wives choose to make sacrifices for each other and their children out of love, they
are acting like Jesus who sacrificed himself out of
love for his Church.
espalda debido a nuestra religión.
"Maestro, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabra de vida
However, when Jesus asked the Twelve if they too
would abandon him, Peter replied, "Master, to whom eterna".
shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
También nosotros algunas veces podemos pensar que
las enseñanzas de Jesús son difíciles. Cuando eso
We too at times may find some of Jesus' teachings
suceda, hablemos con él honestamente en oración
difficult. When that happens, we speak to him honpidiendo su ayuda.
estly in prayer and seek his help.
What a sad day it would be if some of our friends
suddenly turned against us because of our religious
beliefs. Today's gospel story relates how many of
Jesus' disciples left him. They could not accept his
teaching that he himself was the Bread of Life. They
could not believe that his Body and Blood were the
source of eternal life. So they turned their backs on
him and returned to their old way of life.

A Little Bit of More Wisdom…..
“The Lord is knocking at the
door of our hearts. Have we
put a sign of the door saying
“Do Not Disturb?”
Pope Francis
*******************************
POPE FRANCIS’ ENCYCLICAL LAUDATO SI
This encyclical was introduced in the previous bulletin as an appeal from Pope Francis to all
who live on this planet.
It is an important document; a wake up call to
help humanity understand the destruction that we are
rendering to the environment and to all who live and
share our common home.
The encyclical is a lengthy document, focusing on, not only the environment, but also the many
philosophical, theological and cultural causes that
threaten the relationship of man to nature and man to
each other in various circumstances.
The titles of the six chapters will give you an
idea of all its scope. They are:
1) What is happening to our Common Home
2) The Gospel of Creation
3) The Human Roots of the Ecological Crisis
4) Integral Ecology
5) Lines of Approach and Action
6) Ecological Education and Spirituality
In this bulletin, and those in the next few weeks,
there will be quotes on some of the main themes of
the encyclical “On Care for our Common Home.”
“A sober look at our world shows that the degree of
human intervention, often in the service of business
interests and consumerism, is actually making our
earth less rich and beautiful, ever more limited and
grey, even as technological advances and consumer
goods continue to abound limitlessly.”
“Each year hundreds of millions of tons of waste are
generated, much of it non-biodegradable, highly toxic,
and radioactive.. The earth, our home, is beginning to
look more and more like an immense pile of filth.”
“We seem to think that we can substitute an irreplaceable and irretrievable beauty with something which we
have created ourselves.”
“We are not God. The earth was here before us and it
has been given to us. … Although it is true that we
Christians have at times incorrectly interpreted the
scriptures, nowadays we must forcefully reject the
notion that our being created in God's image and given
dominion over the earth justifies absolute domination
over other creatures.”
