Mary Ferreira, Office Manager Richard Sepulveda, Facilities Manager PASTORS CORNER Together as one, we can accomplish great things. We proved that again by reaching our parish goal ($140,000) for the 2015 Bishop’s Ministry Appeal. I want to express my gratitude to all who have given so far. Your generosity has made it possible for the parish to receive training for our Religious Education teachers and also for our Coordinator of Religious Education, Angelique Gutierrez. The good news gets even better for the BMA now. Every dollar that we take in now for the Bishop’s Ministry goes to purchase a baby grand piano, new albs for our altar servers and a new chasuble with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe for our priests to wear. Many parishioners have yet to give to this important Appeal. I want to assure you that it is not too late to give to the Bishop’s Ministry Appeal. In fact, we need your gift now as much as at the start back in February. You may use the envelopes that are available at the Church entrances. You can also donate on-line at stocktondiocese.org/BMA. It takes about 5 minutes to give using your credit card on a secure website. Thank you again to all who are making the 2015 Bishop’s Ministry Appeal a big success. Faithfully, Fr. Pat Walker Second Collection for Catholic Home Missions The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to strengthen home mission dioceses in the United States is by funding seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, where educating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men, so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s appeal. Faith Formation News Please note, that the last week for the 2014-15 Faith Formation year is the last week in April. Registration for the 2015-16 Faith Formation Year will begin on Tuesday, May 26th.. As we strive to accommodate all our families, please note that the sessions do fill up very quickly. If your family will be returning for the next Faith Formation year, please plan to register early. For more information and updates about registration and other important information, please see our website at www.stanthonys.org (click Youth Faith Formation under “Learn and Grow” menu). First Communions For the next two weekends at all Masses (except for Sunday at 7 am) we will see many of our youngest parishioners join in the Eucharist for the first time. As we celebrate with their families, please remember that we will have more visitors than usual joining us for our Masses, please plan accordingly. Congratulations to all! Holy Year Pilgrimage 2016 Bishop Stephen Blaire will be leading a diocesan pilgrimage from June 1st through June 11, 2016 to Rome for the Holy Year. After 22 years of service, commitment, and dedication to our children in their Early Childhood Education, our Preschool Director, Mrs. Alves is retiring. Mrs. Alves has created a culture in our preschool that has left its imprint, not only on the lives of our children, but on the staff and parents as well. While we are excited for her new season of life, we are also sad for the loss of a great teacher, colleague, and friend. Please join us for an Open House Retirement Celebration on Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 9:30am-12:30pm in the St. Anthony School cafeteria. Please tell your family and friends and let’s show Mrs. Alves how many lives she has touched! Checkout Central Catholic High School! April is national Child Abuse Prevention Month. Internet safety for kids: The Internet has become the new schoolyard for child molesters seeking girls or boys to victimize. Internet “chat rooms” provide a teenager with an opportunity to engage in a “live” conversation with friends from school or church, or with other teenagers from around the world. Law enforcement has found that child molesters use chat rooms to gain easy and safe access to teens. Because of the seemingly caring and seductive talent of child molesters, teenagers should be warned that when they are in a chat room, they should never provide anyone with private information, personal information, and especially their specific physical location. Saints & Special Observances Sunday: Third Sunday of Easter Tuesday: St. Anselm Wednesday: Administrative Professionals Day; Earth Day Thursday: St. George; St. Adalbert Friday: St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen; National Arbor Day Saturday: St. Mark Readings for the Week Monday: Acts 6:8-15; Ps 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30; Jn 6:22-29 Tuesday: Acts 7:51 — 8:1a; Ps 31:3cd-4, 6, 7b, 8a, 17, 21ab; Jn 6:30-35 Wednesday: Acts 8:1b-8; Ps 66:1-3a, 4-7a; Jn 6:35-40 Thursday: Acts 8:26-40; Ps 66:8-9, 16-17, 20; Jn 6:44-51 Friday: Acts 9:1-20; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Jn 6:52-59 Saturday: 1 Pt 5:5b-14; Ps 89:2-3, 6-7, 16-17; Mk 16:15-20 Sunday: Acts 4:8-12; Ps 118:1, 8-9, 21-23, 26, 28, 29; 1 Jn 3:1-2; Jn 10:11-18 Savoring the Experience One of the wonderful things about vacations is the time we spend two or three weeks afterward savoring the experience, sharing vacation photos and memories with our family and friends. This kind of reflection puts us back in touch with the original experience and reminds us of the relaxation and wonder the vacation afforded us. Today, on the Third Sunday of Easter, the Church blesses us with reminders of what we celebrated two Sundays ago. All three readings are reflections on the meaning of the death and resurrection of Christ. One of the threads running through these reflections is that the purpose of the Lord’s suffering, death, and resurrection was to save us, to forgive our sins. We are given fifty days to ponder this reality—fifty days to savor the experience of Christ’s dying and rising for us. 9130200610 St. Anthony’s Parish 505 E.
