It is that time of year when we consider
making New Year’s Resolutions. In 1722-1723,
an 18 year old pastor named Jonathan Edwards
composed a list of 70 resolutions which he
fastidiously followed for the remainder of his
life. Edwards prefaced his 70 resolutions by
acknowledging, “I am unable to do anything
without God’s help.” He then prayed that God
might “enable me to keep these Resolutions.”
I thought it might be helpful for us to consider,
and even adopt, some of his resolutions as we
enter into 2015. I have listed a few of Edwards’
resolutions which would serve us well in the
New Year as we seek to honor our Lord.
“Resolved, never to do anything out of
revenge.”
“Resolved, never to speak evil of
anyone…”
“Resolved, that I will live so as I shall
wish I had lived, when I come to die.”
“Resolved, always to do what I can
towards making, maintaining, establishing
and preserving peace.”
“Resolved, to study the Scriptures so
steadily, constantly and frequently, as that I
may find, and plainly perceive myself to grow
in the knowledge of the same.”
By God’s grace, in 2015, may we resolve to
do only those things which promote holiness
and cause us to become more like our Savior,
Jesus Christ. What spiritual resolutions will
you make as you pursue Godliness in the
coming year?
See you Sunday,
Bro. Daniel

One of my favorite passages of scripture is
Psalm 84. It is a beautiful prayer longing for
the house of the Lord. Verses 1 and 2 says this,
“How lovely is Your dwelling place, LORD of
Hosts. I long and yearn for the courts of the
LORD; my heart and flesh cry out for the
living God.” The writer concludes his prayer
with this in verses 10-12, “Better a day in
Your courts than a thousand anywhere else. I
would rather be at the door of the house of my
God than to live in the tents of the wicked. For
the LORD God is a sun and shield. The LORD
gives grace and glory; He does not withhold
the good from those who live with integrity.
LORD of Hosts, happy is the person who trusts
in You!”
I want to encourage all of us to make it a
priority to spend time in the Lord’s presence
each day! Whether it be in prayer, Bible study
or even just being still and quiet before Him,
His presence is something we NEED and there
is nothing sweeter than those moments with
the Lord. Will you commit with me in doing
that?
I would love for you to come and be a part
of the worship choir with us! We are
beginning to prepare for Easter and now is the
perfect time to get plugged in.

The Lottie Moon Offering for International
Missions is a grand finale for a church year
brimming with the wonders of God’s
goodness. We exceeded our mission offering
goal, by raising $48,661.74! Thank you Girls
in Action for your G.A. Post Office stamp
money and to R.A.s for your aluminum can
proceeds. “Now unto Him that is able to do
exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or
think, according to the power that worketh in
us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ
Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.
Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
We are so thankful for every 2014 mission
trip, for Bibles donated to Clanton jail
ministry, for Christmas Shoe Boxes, for the
Kathleen Mallory and Annie Armstrong
offerings, for the building fund and many
dedicated workers. We are thankful for those
who work so tirelessly at Through the Grace of
God Ministries and Meals on Wheels. So much
has been accomplished and there is so much to
be done.
The next Women on Mission and Youth on
Mission meetings will be held Wednesday
night, January 21, 2015.

All this is from God, who through Christ
reconciled us to himself and gave us the
ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ
God was reconciling the world to himself, not
counting their trespasses against them, and
entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ,
God making his appeal through us. We
implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled
to God. For our sake He made Hum to be sin
who knew no sin, so that in Him we might
become the righteousness of God.
(2 Corinthians 5:18-21 ESV)
