WE GATHER TO WORSHIP
Greeting
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
All: And also with you.
One: Let us prepare for worship.
Gary Fulton
Preparation for Worship
Everlasting God, the radiance of faithful souls, who brought the nations to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising: fill the world with
your glory and show yourself to all the nations; through him who is the true light and the bright morning star, Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord, who
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Prelude - Chorale Prelude In Dulci Jubilo

Call to Worship
One: Arise, shine, for your light has come!
All: The glory of the Lord has risen upon us.
One: Let us praise the Lord together.
All: The sun shall no longer be our light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on us,
One: For the Lord will be our light, and our God will be our glory.
All: The Lord will be our everlasting light, and our days of sorrow will end.
One: Come, let us sing to our light and salvation!
*Hymn 152 - What Star Is This, with Beams So Bright
PUER NOBIS NASCITUR
*Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, Light of the world, you deliver the poor and the helpless, but we have ignored their cry. You give
compassion to the weak and the destitute, but our hearts are hard in the face of their need. You heal the wounded
and save the oppressed but we have placed our trust in the callous violence of war. Forgive us, we pray. Awake in
us sincere repentance that we may shine with the light of your saving grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
*Assurance of Forgiveness
*Passing of the Peace
*Gloria - Hymn 113, refrain
Gloria in excelsis Deo;
Gloria in excelsis Deo!

Trio:
Say, where is he born the king of Judea? For we have seen his star, and are come to adore him.

Prayer of Thanksgiving
Congregational Response
Child, for us sinners poor and in the manger,
We would embrace thee, with love and awe;
Who would not love thee, loving us so dearly?
O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

9:30 - Communion will be served in the pews. Please hold each element until invited to partake together. As you pass the elements, remember that by
the grace of God, Christ calls us and equips each of us to minister to each other.
*All who are able may stand.
Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
*Affirmation of Faith
from Phil. 2:5-11
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form
he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess to
the glory of God: Jesus Christ is Lord!
WE GO IN GOD’S NAME
*Hymn 150 - As with Gladness Men of Old

*Charge and Benediction
*Chiming of the Trinity
The worship service ends with the Chiming of the Trinity.
Please be mindful of those who remain to listen to the postlude.
