Reflection from the Pastor:
February 2nd brings us to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, formerly
known as the Purification of Mary. This feast day commemorates how, forty
days after Our Lord’s birth, His parents brought Him to the Temple in
Jerusalem in order to fulfill the Old Testament Law. This beautiful custom
recalled God’s command that the firstborn son belongs to Him (Exodus 13:2).
The texts for the Mass recall the prophecy from Malachi, who described the
coming of the Lord into His Temple and the coming of his “messenger of the
covenant”. Our God-made-man, Jesus Christ, has united himself to us
through the Incarnation: God comes to us, and shares with us his love and
peace.
