Sunday, April 19, 2015 From the Pastor’s Desk – Happy Easter season to everyone. I hope you are still living in the joy of the risen Lord. The weekend mail brought me a beautiful note from the pastor of St. Luke Church in Whitestone, Msgr. John Tosi. It reads in part: “The enclosed check (for $390.00) is to be used to support the work of [your] parish food pantry. It is shared in the joy and hope of Easter. May it in some small way bring the Good News of Christ Risen to those helped by your goodness. Please keep us here at Saint Luke in your prayers as we pray for the parish of St. Leo.” Thank you, Msgr. Tosi, and we will continue to pray for you and the wonderful people of your parish. On another note, I wish to encourage all of us to make our weekly tithes and donations to our parish using the parish envelopes designed for this purpose. There is still a large segment of the parish that refuses to use these handy envelopes. I don’t understand why, but I am willing to listen to your reasons. In the meantime, the parish spends money – your money – mailing these envelopes out to you on a regular basis. It alerts us to upcoming special collections, and helps to inform our sacrificial giving with gospel wisdom. There are many good reasons to use them. Please try to do so. May God bless us all. – Fr. Hoppe. CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to strengthen home mission dioceses in the USA is by funding seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial challenge on these dioceses, where educating each seminarian costs between $35 and $40,000.00 per year. Your support is needed for these young men, so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s appeal. Todavía hay un gran segmento de la parroquia que rehúsa utilizar estos sobres. No entiendo por qué no, pero estoy dispuesto a escuchar sus razones. Hay que pensar que la parroquia gasta dinero, que es su dinero, enviando por correo estos sobres de manera regular. Nos llama la atención sobre colectas especiales venideras y nos ayuda a informar nuestras donaciones con sabiduría evangélica. Hay muchas buenas razones para utilizarlos. Por favor traten de hacerlo. Una manera en que este llamado funciona para fortalecer a las diócesis misioneras en los Estados Unidos es otorgando fondos para la formación de seminaristas en las diócesis pobres. La bendición de los seminaristas pone una carga financiera en estas diócesis en donde la educación de cada seminarista cuesta entre $35 a $40 mil dólares al año. Su apoyo es necesario para que estos jóvenes puedan regresar y servir en sus parroquias. Por favor, fortalezca la Iglesia en casa dando una generosa donación al llamado de la próxima semana.
