Meditation of the day Throughout Sacred Scripture, we find that when God's people fast, it increases the power of their prayers, especially when they are engaged in spiritual warfare. In the Old Testament, the Lord told Isaiah that a fast properly undertaken would 'loose the bonds of wickedness . . . undo the thongs of the yoke . . . let the oppressed go free' (Is. 58:6). In the New Testament, we find that Jesus fasted for forty days and nights in the wilderness in preparation for His battle with Satan, who came to tempt Him (see Luke 4:1-2) . If prayer is a spiritual weapon, fasting is the spiritual stone that sharpens it. It is the spiritual muscle that, when exercised regularly, strengthens the thrust of that weapon to pierce the enemy and drive him away. Scripture Insights On Palm Sunday the liturgy offers a panoramic view of the mysteries that we will contemplate during Holy Week or Paschal Triduum: the institution of the Eucharist, the passion and death of the Lord, and the prediction of His Resurrection. The reading during the Procession with Palms offers a stark contrast to the readings at Mass. Inside the Mass, we focus on the moment when Christ will celebrate the Passover with his closest friends. Then, we witness Judas’s betrayal. We also see betrayal by Peter, who rejects Jesus three times lest he suffer the same fate. The readings leave us in a suspense that will only be resolved at the Easter Vigil. Christ is dead and buried. Finally, the Gospel points out that the story does not end here. The priests and Pharisees, knowing that he had said he would rise from the dead in three days, take every precaution to prevent anyone from stealing the body and claiming that Jesus has risen. Not only do they request guards, but they also seal the entrance to the tomb. With this, the readings prepare us to realize on Easter Sunday that if the tomb is empty, it has not been the work of men. May the Lord allow us to accompany him serenely during these Easter mysteries and may we emerge from them renewed in faith, hope, and clarity. Entonces, somos testigos del Judas traidor. También vemos traición de Pedro, que rechaza Jesús tres veces para que no sufran el mismo destino. Las lecturas nos dejan en suspenso que sólo se resolverá en la Vigilia Pascual. Cristo está muerto y enterrado. Finalmente, el Evangelio señala que la historia no termina aquí. Los sacerdotes y de los Fariseos, sabiendo que él había dicho iba a resucitar de entre los muertos en tres días, tome todas las precauciones necesarias para evitar que alguien robar el cuerpo y afirmando que Jesús ha resucitado. No sólo piden guardias, pero también sello la entrada de la tumba. Con esto, las lecturas nos prepara para realizar en el Domingo de Pascua que si la tumba está vacía, no ha sido la labor de los hombres. Que el Señor nos permita que lo acompañen con serenidad durante esta Semana Santa misterios y puede salir de ellos renovado en la fe, la esperanza y a la claridad.
