During times of suffering and sorrow as well as celebration, these are a tangible sign of God's love and the ministry's commitment to the power of prayer. There is no charge for the shawls. We do ask for a donation so we can buy more yarn and continue making shawls. New members of all skill levels are always welcome. We also speak Spanish. Scripture Insights Perspectivas de las Escrituras The calling of the two sets of fishermen bother was relatively private matter, so today’s Gospel reading , the cure of the man with an unclean spirit , is Mark’s first story of an action in Jesus’s public life. The focus of the account is Jesus’s exercise of power over an evil spirit; yet Mark’s interest seems to be in Jesus’s teaching authority. For the account begins with this: “The people were astonished at his teaching for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes”. And it ends with the people saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority” that raises the question: How is this demonic deliverance a “teaching”? What Jesus teaches is not an announcement of God’s triumph over evil- a theme Mark will develop throughout his account, culminating dramatically at the Crucifixion.
