The Development and Peace Committee of Our Lady of the Scapular will be hosting the documentary film “On the Road to Food Sovereignty” on Sunday, April 6 at 12:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The film highlights the work of Development and Peace in Haiti. Have a warm bowl of soup while you watch the film. The film “A New Leaf” about food sovereignty in the Sahel region of Africa will follow. Admission will be by donation to Development and Peace. THINKfast Our Lady of the Scapular Parish is very excited to be participating in Development and Peace’s THINKfast on April 4th and 5th 2014! Rediscover Catholicism Lent Book Study Continuing this Monday, March 24, the third week of the 6 week Lenten-focused book study on Matthew Kelly’s book, Rediscover Catholicism will be held in the parish hall from 8-9 p.m. Note that the remaining dates for the book study are March 31 7-8 p.m., April 21 7-8 p.m. and April 28 7-8 p.m. Donations of a non-perishable food item at these sessions is encouraged as part of the “almsgiving” during Lent. LENTEN DAY OF RECOLLECTION The call of Jesus. “Repent and believe the Good News,” is a Gospel imperative. Jesus teaches us the way to the Father. We know that Jesus did not come to judge us or to condemn us, but to forgive us, to heal us and to save us. He said, “Go, and sin no more.” In response to this invitation of Jesus, on Saturday, April 5, in every parish church across the diocese a priest will be available to hear individual confessions (in our parish from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). No matter how long it has been, you are welcome to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance, which assists each one of us in our spiritual discipline as we turn away from sin and open our hearts to reconciliation and healing. Did You Know … …that on this journey of life, each of us are looking for answers to many of life’s questions? These include: What does God want from me? Will I find happiness where I am presently looking? These questions are universal, for each of us is looking for meaning in life. And at each of the different stages of life, we are still in search of the same thing. That is happiness. It is a quest that for many takes a lifetime. There is temporary happiness and the illusions of happiness that, I will admit, I have chased after in the past, such as material possessions. Our faith teaches us that true happiness is found in God and God alone. I have the privilege to assist in leading our Matthew Kelly book study, and I must say, the time spent with our fellow parishioners has been most rewarding. We are sharing our own faith journeys to see where we have been, and most importantly where we want to go as a Church. The setting is very pleasant, and you can simply listen or share your thoughts as you feel comfortable. If you have read the book, come and join us! If the book is still on your coffee table, come and join us! Give it a try this Monday evening at 8pm for an hour to see if it is for you. Please consider this my personal invitation during this season of Lent to rediscover our faith, and to rediscover who each of us are, and can be, as the Body of Christ.
