Doscher, Editor Bernie Beglane, Consultant Fifth Sunday of Lent St. Rosalie’s Bulletin www.saintrosalie.com Page 3 From The Pastor’s Desk The Second Reading: In the days when Christ Jesus was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. HEBREWS 5:7-9 One Week Away Today we are just one week away from Palm Sunday. It is hard to believe, isn’t it? As we enter into these last 10 Days or so before we begin the Sacred Triduum, why not recommit oneself to those Lenten actions of identifying more closely to Christ in our fasting, abstinence and almsgiving and Lenten practices we started on Ash Wednesday. Our Lord “learned obedience from what he suffered.” Can we not unite our penances and our inconveniences to our Savior? We can walk with Him to Calvary which will help us to go with Mary Magdalene and Peter and John to the tomb. How Blessed we are to be loved by our God! Let us enter more fully into Christ’s death and Resurrection. Lenten Journey 2015, Lenten Practices We abstain from meat Fridays of Lent from age 18 and over. Good Friday is also a day of Fasting (2 lighter meals or one full meal) for Catholics age 14 to their 59th year, inclusive. MITE Boxes Our Lenten MITE Boxes are a wonderful way to help those in need. Almsgiving is one of our Lenten practices. Two-thirds of the alms will be given to our Food Pantry which aids the poor and those who need a helping hand at this time in our own community. The Fifth Sunday of Lent other third will go to Catholic Relief Services which will aid those suffering around the world. On behalf of those in need of food – who may need a helping hand (out of work, family illness, etc.) in our parish and those in need around the world we say thank you, so much! What a great example of Lenten almsgiving! office or email me at [email protected] if interested. Around the Parish Our Annual Soup Supper In Holy Week As you may have noticed the frigid winter with ice and snow has not been kind to the church roof. There are a few leaks caused by the ice formed between the roof tiles (simple explanation) which will translate into repairs and $$. We are waiting for review to hope for some insurance but may not hit our deductible. As soon as we can we will repair this item. Just want to keep you informed. Memorials There are opportunities to memorialize loved ones here at Saint Rosalie’s Church. We have been very cost conscious in using the vestments we have since I arrived in 2010. With that said it would be great to add a couple of new vestments. Something lasting and fitting for the Liturgy with some durability might cost between $600-$900. Perhaps you would like to memorialize a loved one with a chasuble or dalmatic (outer vestments priest and deacon wears). Or even make a half donation. Please call the parish Lenten Retreat Telecare's annual Lenten Retreat will be from Tuesday, March 24, to Thursday, March 26 at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. I will give the retreat with the theme on "Lent as seen by our Holy Fathers". Come join your fellow parishioners for a Soup Supper at the Parish Center on Wednesday of Holy Week, April 1 at 6 p.m. Call the office so we can add another cup of water to the many delicious home-made soups for reservations. Ilustración © 1999 M. McGrath. Printed from www.
