THEME: THE FULLNESS OF GOD’S SPIRIT WAS UPON JESUS.
The Spirit of God moved and worked in the lives of prophets and saints. But the fullness of God’s Spirit
rested upon his son, Jesus. The power and presence of the Holy Spirit was evident in the life of Jesus.
When we open our lives to Jesus, we receive the same Spirit that strengthened and sustained Jesus during
his life and ministry.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
Isaiah prophesies that God will send his servant, the one whom God’s Spirit will rest. In our reading from the
Acts of the Apostles, Peter confirms that God’s Spirit was upon Jesus at his baptism. A voice from heaven
declared that Jesus was God’s beloved son, in whom he was well pleased.
FAMILY PERSPECTIVE
Even Jesus needed RECOGNITION (“You are my Son”), AFFECTION (“My beloved”) and AFFIRMATION (“I
am pleased.”) It is too easy to focus on irritating behaviors in our family and take for granted all the positives.
In this New Year take a lesson from Our Father and be an AFFIRMER, not a BLAMER.
STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT
When Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened and a voice said “You are my beloved Son, with you I am
well pleased”. Do we recognize our unity with Jesus Christ in our baptism? Are we willing to fulfill the
promises of our baptism to become the beloved sons and daughters of the heavenly Father, by serving him
and our brothers and sisters?

of the Father. If God’s joy is to see you serve in the religious life, as a deacon or priest the contact Father
Christopher Luoni at 330-744-8451, or email him at: [email protected].
MARRIAGE MOMENTS AND PARENT POINTERS by Susan Vogt
Marriage Moment
If you’re too busy to have a weekly date with your spouse, you may be too busy. Tonight choose several
hours that you can devote just to each other next weekend. This week the wife plans what to do, next week
it’s the husband’s turn.
Parenting Pointer
Don’t think that you have to rush in with a solution to every problem your child has. Sometimes all that a
child needs is your listening presence to figure out his or her own solution.
