If you have deep respect and love
for children, call 713-692-1941.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
We have all been saddened by the tragic loss of life
that has occurred in Nigeria over the past weeks.
An estimated 2,000 Christians have been killed at the
hands of Boko Haram just this year.
Please join us as we pray for peace in Nigeria
and throughout the world.

ST. ROSE OF LIMA
HOUSTON, TEXAS
JANUARY 25, 2015
Financial Cents
Each year St. Rose of Lima participates in a formal risk and
safety review performed by the Catholic Mutual Department at the Archdiocese. An Annual Risk Analysis review
takes place in mid-fall. Members of our staff go through the
entire property with a representative from Catholic Mutual.
The purpose of these reviews is to provide us with an in
depth, independent perspective, through the eyes of specially trained professionals, of the potential risks and safety
issues that may exist. This partnership with Catholic Mutual has existed for several years and has been embraced by
the Parish, School and Early Childhood Center as an important and critical part of our safety and preventive
maintenance programs.
The reviews are very thorough and cover all areas of the
property and all buildings, both inside and out. Identifying
potential safety issues has always been the main focus of
attention, but we look into other areas as well, such as preventive maintenance, housekeeping, building code upgrades and best practices. We consistently receive good
marks in all of these areas, and we are always open to new
ideas and recommendations on how we might improve.
This year one focus included the grandfathered nature of
building codes that were placed into existence at the time
when some of the older buildings were built. The suggestion was that we might consider upgrading in places where
safety could be improved to current codes. One area where
this suggestion made perfect sense was to replace the existing electrical receptacles located near water sources with
new CFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interruption) receptacles. In
keeping with this, Building & Maintenance installed new
GFCI receptacles last weekend for the water fountain located in the School’s quad classroom breezeway, as well as in
the downstairs kitchen area in the Fellowship Center. This
work was in addition to a number of other suggested preventive measures to repair expansion joints in walkways
and to remove trip hazards around the Girl Scout Cottage.
Our formal response to the Archdiocese is not due until end
of the month, but we are well ahead of schedule in the actions already taken and completed. However, it is equally
important to note that preventive maintenance here is not
just viewed as a once-a-year event. Building & Maintenance takes the tasks upon review on a continuous basis. It
all comes down to pride in ownership; this is our community and our legacy - Parish, School & Early Childhood Center – and who else could take care of it any better than we
who call St. Rose of Lima our home?

Prayer for the Year
of Consecrated Life
O God, throughout the ages you have called
women and men to pursue lives of perfect
charity through the evangelical counsels of
poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this
Year of Consecrated Life, we give you
thanks for these courageous witnesses of
Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit
of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to
enrich your Church by calling forth sons and
daughters who, having found the pearl of
great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven
above all things. Through our Lord Jesus
Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with
you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.

3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
That we may hear Jesus’ personal invitation to “Follow
Him” and respond by generously sharing all our gifts.
“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Mark 1:17
Jesus’ call to “Follow me” is a call to all Christians!
Jesus asks us to help Him build his church on earth by
generously sharing all our gifts of prayer, talent and
treasure. Remember, Jesus calls us to generously develop
and share all our gifts, not just the ones we pick and
choose.
