Supervises: Newcomer Outreach Liaisons
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The goal of the Newcomer Outreach program is to introduce the new member to WBFN and provide
practical information and/or emotional support that the new member may need. The Newcomer
Outreach Coordinator works with Newcomer Outreach Liaisons to contact as many as possible new
members of WBFN who have arrived in the DC area within the last six months.
JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITES





Recruit Newcomer Outreach Liaisons with the help of Volunteer Coordinator
Train the Liaisons on how to contact new WBFN Members and record their effort.
Explain how to access and use MS Access WBFN Membership Database and Lotus Notes
Welcoming Team email account
Check the status of Newcomer Outreach program results using the database and provide
direction to Liaisons on areas for enhanced outreach and improvement
Work with Data Analyst to quantitatively and qualitatively assess the results of Newcomer
Outreach program and prepare monthly progress report.
QUALITATIVE REQUIREMENTS









Strong written and spoken communications skills in order to communicate thoughts and ideas in
a clear and cohesive manner
Ability to lead a team
Project management experience would be useful
Understanding of resources and programs available under the WBFN
Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Word and Excel. Experience in MS Access and Lotus
Notes would be useful but is not necessary.
Proven planning and organization skills
Strong interpersonal skills in order to reach out and interact with a diverse group of people
Ability to establish processes for open communication and network with others to achieve
positive results
Ability to interact positively with people of different cultures
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Level and type of education may vary for the position; however, a bachelor’s degree with previous
experience in the field would be an asset for the position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Volunteer must be in the WBFN office, using Welcoming Team’s computer to access WBFN Membership
Database and Welcoming Team email account.

APPROXIMATE VOLUNTEER HOURS

In-Office: 2 hours per week
BENEFITS OF POSITION
Volunteer opportunities are always open to WBG spouses/partners who are looking for ways of
acquiring US experience while awaiting their work permit and/or want to contribute to helping other
WBG families.
Volunteers gain the opportunity to hone their English speaking skills, writing skills and more importantly
their listening skills. Furthermore, they meet many interesting people from many different backgrounds,
and will find it a fascinating experience to be able to connect with them, and help them find a new
footing. Volunteering also provide an avenue to make friends, and hone your intercultural and
interpersonal skills.
Specific benefits: Project and team management experience, strengthening written and spoken
communications skills and experience of using MS Access, Excel and Lotus Notes.
