The Family Outreach Resource Centre is a drop-in centre for families with children ages 0 – 6 years of age.
We are located at 355 O’Connell Drive, Corner Brook NL. Our playgroup at Humber United is located at
88 Clarence Street, Corner Brook. We offer:

Drop-in playgroups at Family Outreach Resource Centre and Humber United Church. These are open for
everyone – no registration is required. Humber United Playgroup will take place on Thursdays. Please see
calendar for dates and times.

Toy lending and resource library.

Children’s programs - These are age-specific programs that run for 4 - 6 weeks. Please refer to the calendar
for dates and times. Registration is required for these programs as space is limited so please drop in to
register to avoid disappointment.

Parent programs - These are 6 – 8 week programs that help with day-to-day parenting skills. Registration is
required as space is limited so please call ahead to avoid disappointment.
The informal setting provides parents with the opportunity to meet other families. All programs are free of
charge and transportation is available. For more information please call the Family Outreach Resource
Centre at 634-2316.
Christmas Giving Tree
Closure - Christmas
Family Outreach Resource Centre is excited
to announce that we are having our very own
Christmas giving tree. If you would like to
be one of Santa's helpers, please pick a tag
off our tree to buy a gift for a child this
Christmas. Gifts must be returned by
December 12th with your tag! The tree is
located in our common area here at the
centre. You must register your tag with the
front desk before you take it.
Reminder: The Family Outreach
Resource Centre will be closed from
December 22, 2014 to January 2nd, 2015
in observance of Christmas Holidays. The
Centre will re-open January 5th, 2015 and
Playgroup will restart on January 12th.

SOUTH SHORE FAMILY OUTREACH
RESOURCE CENTRE
The South Shore Family Resource Centre provides support and programs for parents with children ages 0 – 6.
All programs are FREE.
Drop-in playgroups take place on Monday afternoons 1:00 p.m. and Wednesday evenings 6:00 p.m. at the
Community Hall in Benoit’s Cove, and Tuesday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. and Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. at
the Community Hall in Lark Harbour.
Our playgroups are set up with areas to provide a chance for your child to paint, play with play dough, play
house, build with blocks, play with a sand table, a water table and have fun. Each playgroup includes a snack,
and a chance to share songs, storybooks and fun at Circle Time.
We also offer Healthy Baby Club, which is a prenatal and postnatal program that promotes healthy choices;
helping families have the healthiest baby possible. This program is open to women from all communities on the
South Shore. There is currently space available in this program. Please call to add your name to our program.

A free prenatal support program for pregnant
women. This program offers:
Prenatal Education Classes with a Public Health
Nurse:

through home visits
Cooking classes
Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyles

Free weekly food supplements
Free transportation and child
care during meetings.

M.O.M.S. Group
(My Own Moms Support)
A program for young mothers, to have mom
time and socialize while attending information
sessions on a variety of parenting topics,
cooking, doing arts and crafts, and physical
fitness sessions. Transportation and childcare
are available. Please call to register.

Fit as a fiddle
This four week program is for our three year
olds. It includes warm-ups, cool-downs and fun
physical activity. Throughout the program,
children learn self-confidence, expression, fine
and gross motor skills, moving and healthy
habits. The children well be encouraged by their
energetic Early Childhood staff to become active
and become fit as a fiddle. There is limited space
available. Please visit us at our playgroup to sign
up. The program will begin after Christmas
break in January.
R EADY , S ET , P LAY !
This is a 12-week program for children who will be
attending school in September 2015. Topics covered
include:





All About Me
Colors
Numbers
Alphabet
Science
This program helps to provide children with socialization
and introduces concepts that will be covered in school.
This program will be offered on Tuesday mornings from
10 – 11:30. Anyone interested please drop by the
center to register. Childcare will not be available for this
program. The second intake will begin in January.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation for programs is provided free
of charge. Please call 634-2316 by 8:30 a.m.
for morning programs and 11:00 a.m. for
afternoon programs. Please feel free to leave
a message.
Car Seat Clinic
A Car Seat Clinic will be held on December 12th. If
you need a car seat installed, please drop by
during this time. Please ensure your backseat is
clutter-free to allow room to install seat properly.
