Lent: Germanic word for spring. Eventually became associated in English speaking countries with the 40 days
preparation before Easter. In Latin, the word is Quadragessima – meaning 40 days.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Dear St Francis Family,
We celebrate “Laetare Sunday “(Sunday to Rejoice) this weekend reflecting on the "LOVE OF GOD"
as being proclaimed in the Gospel today "God so loved
the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal
life. For God did not send His Son to condemn the
world, but to save the world through Him.”(Jn 3:16-17)
Love is the best known attribute of God but least
understood. God is not a God of wrath or vengeance but
a God of love who came in search of the lost sheep of
His flock." I have not come to call the righteous but
sinners to repentance "(Luke 5:32)
As we journey into this season of Lent, let us admit
with all humility before the Lord our own sinfulness
and unworthiness, and let us thank Him always for His
unconditional love towards us. Remember that He has
no pleasure in the death of the wicked but tenderly calls
sinners to turn from their evil ways and live (Ezekiel
18:32)
May this Season of grace continue to keep us connected with God whom we owe all our lives and may St
Francis help us always find our way back to God every
time we feel apart from God. Amen.
Fr. Manny
“No he venido a llamar a justos,
sino a pecadores al arrepentimiento.” (Lk 5:32)
pecados e indignidad y agradezcámosle a Él siempre
por Su amor incondiconal hacia nosotros. Recuerden
(Ez 18:32)
Padre Manny
Religious Education
General Information About Religious Education Classes :
• Religious Education classes at St. Francis of Assisi
are offered for students in grades 1-8. Classes for students in grades 1-6 are offered at two sessions on
Sunday mornings. The first session meets from 8:309:40 a.m. and the second session meets from 11:00
a.m.-noon. Students in 7th and 8th grades have
classes on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m.-8:15 p.m.
• The RE year begins after Labor Day and ends in early May.
• All classes are conducted in English although most
volunteers are bilingual and can assist students with
limited English.
• St. Francis has only 6 classrooms available for
classes. Each classroom can accommodate 24 students. Each class requires two Safe Environment
cleared adults.
• All students MUST register for classes-new and returning. Families that have been registered members
of the parish for at least six months will be accepted
first. All those not registered with the parish will be
considered if there is still available space after October 1, 2015.
• Fees for the classes are charged to help the church
provide books and supplies. Fees are $50 for one student, $60 for two students in the same family and $75
for three or more students in the same family. Fees for
the current year are due September 30, 2015.
• Pre Registration is now ongoing for students who attended this year (2014-15). Registration for new students will be accepted beginning April 7, 2015. Students can continue to register until all available space
is filled.
• Registration may be done online at our St. Francis
website: www.stfrancislancaster.org., email at
[email protected], on the phone at 972-227-0770 or in
person at the RE Office on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 9:00 am-2:30 pm.
• Already baptized students needing First Communion and Confirmation must attend classes for two
consecutive years. Students are eligible for First
Communion at the end of second grade if the students
completed first grade RE classes. Students are eligible
for Confirmation at the end of eighth grade if they
completed seventh grade RE classes.
RE classes are intended to help families with the faith formation of their children. Parents and guardians are an important part of faith formation. RE classes are not only for
sacraments, but can assist families with strong ongoing
formation! Good faith formation can happen only if families are practicing their faith. Help us help you raise
strong Catholic children! Parents and grandparents make
some of our best volunteers.
