LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hi Ladies
If the second half of the year
goes as fast as the first half,
2015 will be here before we
know it. There is much to accomplish for the guild. We will
produce a budget for 2015,
vote on the budget, assemble
a nominating committee, vote
in new officers, turn the reins
over to the new officers, have
a great Christmas Party and
issue a quilt challenge all before next year.
I am pleased to tell you that
we will do it again this month
with our speaker Peg Bingham. However, since Peg
has a workshop after the
business meeting, we will
need to keep the meeting,

continued from page 1
If you think you may buy
something from Peg,
please bring cash, or a
check. Thanks for being
understanding when we try
something new.
The board met with Soldier
Quilts and Charity Quilts
after the last guild meeting.
I am always amazed that
as a quilt guild we can not
get our quilts quilted. It is
hard to believe that all of
you send every quilt out to
be quilted by someone
else. I know it is a daunting thought to quilt for
someone else. However,
the people that these quilts
are given to are just happy
that someone remembers
them and their needs.
Please consider taking one
home and working on it.
Take your time with it and
if you are like me you will
learn more about quilting.
See you on August 5 for
Peg Bingham.

PROGRAMS 2014
August - Following last month’s outstanding lecture and workshop by Jan Wass on Illinois
Amish quilts, the guild welcomes Peg Bingham of Ohio for a lecture and half-day workshop
on pieced Celtic knot quilts. Her half day workshop on the basic Celtic knot motif sold out
completely at our June meeting. Workshop participants were provided with her pattern and
are reminded to choose your project and have your fabric cut in advance.
September - Our own Christine Copenhaver will share her quilts made from men's neckties.
A published author, she has created some stunning quilts, many of which are featured in her
new book which we hope will be available for purchase. In the afternoon, she will demonstrate her techniques for working with this "non-traditional" type of fabric. Fee for the demonstration will be $10. Don't miss this one!
October 7- Anne Dougherty on Civil War Quilts

2015 FUNDRAISER
Our first planning meeting brought new ideas that we can start working on right
now. But we definitely welcome your input and involvement in all parts of this big
event; especially if you have seen great ideas from other shows and guilds, we want
to hear from you.
Specific jobs are beginning to take shape and we will be looking for people to lead
some teams. I believe we should participate where we find happiness and satisfaction. But I've also seen friends blossom unexpectedly trying new tasks. You know
the old saying--what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! So please consider the
following areas:
--Quilt show: all parts. Jury/awards/ribbons; inviting "emeritus" former members for a reunion to be the jury.
--New quilt hanging systems such as PVC pipes.
--Making fine show quilts especially from our programs. Selling your quilts on
commission.
--Making small projects (guild sales). Fabric donations will be channeled to
these. Please bring us your ideas and we will use some sitnsew time for mass production!
--Inviting senior communities, church groups and others for scheduled tours,
complete with tea and cookies
--General marketing and Public relations. Contact other guilds.
--Event location. We are looking to early November 2015. We want to have
time to get to know new places and have them know us.
--Develop and manage a booklet on the quilts. Advertisers? Sponsors?
--Bake sale, food concessions
Another firm rule with me is that nobody works alone! If you're new here, or just want
to try new things, we will work with you at every step.
Best wishes for a great summer.

BUS TRIP TO CHATTANOOGA
Ladies, we have reserved a bus for the Chattanooga AQS Quilt Show, September 10, 2014.
We will leave Cool Springs Galleria at 7am. We
will leave the Chattanooga Convention Center
at 5:30PM. As always your payment of $35 is
your registration. That is non-refundable. I hope
you will join us.
Pat Christianson
Special Requests: Shhhhh! We have a
surprise planned.
Thanks to everyone who donated fabric. We
received enough for our project.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY FAIR 2014
Hey ladies, it’s time to sign up to assist with the quilt show at the fair. The sign-up sheet will be passed
around at our regular meeting on July 1st. There are lots of occasions for assistance. Please note that for
“sitting with the quilts” the time was re-extended to 10:00 PM. The fair board decided that we cannot close
the room at 9:00 (even if there are no attendees in the room) since the food vendors have contracted to
stay open until 10:00 PM. Please, please, please, if you can, sign up for one of the 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
slots. The volunteer parking is fairly well lit and if security is an issue a security escort will accompany you
to your car, probably in a golf cart from the parking gate.
Hanging quilts will be on Thursday, July 31st from 9:00 am until… and taking down of the quilts will be on
Sunday, August 10th from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm. Can you help?
If you want to sign up before the guild meeting, just call me (615) 333-3712 and I will put type in your name
at your desired day and time.
Thanks so very much for your support. Wanda

AUGUST BIRTHDAYS
I can’t thank you enough for your support for the
Thistle Farms Graduation Quilt project. Twenty
seven blocks were signed out at the July meeting.
This is an excellent start. At the August meeting,
I will have the remainder of the green blocks and
if those are gone, we will start the red blocks.
Please return the patterns to use in the next set of
blocks. If you want the pattern you may copy it or
wait until the project is finished. I made 40 copies
and anyone who wants one can have them. Also
please, please return anything that you take with
you-baggies, batting, trimmings, tie strings. We
reuse everything. And another big thanks to
those of you who took bundles to quilt. I don’t like
to play favorites, but you know everything stops
without you. So much appreciation goes to you
from me, the board, and the guild.

I would like to have feedback from the guild on
the direction you would like to see the charity
committee take in the future. We have fewer opportunities to do a sit and sew after the meetings
due to classes. Is the block at a time method
something you would like to continue? Please
feed me ideas. See you in August. Hollie
