Dear Families and Friends of St. Margaret Mary’s,
T
oday we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. Celebrated within the octave of Easter, it is the fruit of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection. The mercy of God pours forth to its fullest extent through the person and mission of
Jesus. From His coming to His teaching to His healing and suffering to His
many miracles, all is done to restore the broken human family to the grace of
the Father, who is “rich in mercy” (Eph. 2:4)
A
s in the Old Testament, so in the New,
God reaches out to save us “not because of the deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of His own mercy” (Titus 3:5). We read in the Gospels that
Christ came “not to call the righteous,
but sinners” (Mk 2:17). He applied the
prophet Hosea’s call in a powerful way: “For
I desire mercy and not sacrifice.”
esus’ teaching on mercy was a source of
scandal when He chose to associate with
sinners. In particular, His parable of the Prodigal Son, in revealing the Father’s merciful
heart, teaches us two things. First, if we humbly admit our sins, God will forgive us. Second, the mercy of God cannot penetrate the
human heart which fails to be merciful to others.
oday’s Divine Mercy feast was instituted
by St. John Paul II in the Jubilee Year
2000, 21 days after he canonized St. Faustina
Kowalska, the uneducated Polish nun who received the Divine Mercy messages from our
J
T
Lord in the 1930s. Her 600-page diary reveals
the basic theme that we “moderns” live in the
time of God’s Mercy that is being extended to
all, especially sinners. God’s Mercy is infinite
and unconditional for those who, opening
their hearts to conversion, accept it. Those,
however, who obstinately refuse Divine Mercy
will be forced to experience it as Divine Justice or punishment.
he Divine Mercy devotion, with its painted image of Jesus—“Jesus, I trust in
you”—and the Chaplet, beg God’s mercy for
our modern world. Jesus told St. Faustina
that the souls of those properly disposed (a
good confession during the previous Lent)
who receive Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday will return to the state of their baptismal innocence! Furthermore, He insists
that we all must actively be merciful towards
others every day—in our thoughts, words and
deeds—all in preparation for His Second
Coming.

Estimadas Familias y Amigos de Santa Margarita María,
H
A
Segunda Venida.
Con oraciones y la amistad,
Padre Paul
Bendecidos son aquellos que no han
Visto y han creido

TOGETHER IN
MISSION
Together in Mission is a
wonderful way for each of us
and our Parish Community to
reach out to our Catholic
family throughout the Los
Angeles Archdiocese who need our help and share the many blessings that we have
been given at St. Margaret Mary’s. ALL MONEY GIVEN MUST, BY LAW, BE
USED TO SUPPORT THE GOALS OF THIS PROGRAM AND CANNOT BE
USED FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE.
Our Parish goal for Together in Mission this year is $130,200. As of April 4, 373
families in our community have pledged $89,756. Just $40,444 more is needed to
meet this year’s goal.
All money that is paid that exceeds our goal is returned to the parish and we put it
into our Christian Service Program so, all donations to this program go directly to
those who have a real need.
If you have not made a pledge yet, please prayerfully consider doing so, envelopes
are available in the pews or in the parish office.
THANK YOU FROM DEACON DAN WALLACE
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
CELEBRATION
The first Sunday After Easter was decreed to be
Divine Mercy Sunday in April, 2000 by
Saint John Paul II when he was Pope.
We invite you to join us for our
annual liturgy celebrating this special day
TODAY, April 12th, 3 PM, in the Church
Our Lord said to St. Faustina
“...on that day the very depths of My tender mercy are
open.... The soul that will go to Confession (beforehand)
and receive Holy Communion (that day) shall
Obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment….
The Feast of Mercy emerged from my very depths of
tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on
the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace
until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.”
(Passage 699, St. Faustina’s diary.)

PRO-LIFE
Mother Teresa spoke boldly to
those in power about the evil
of abortion. In her Nobel
Peace Prize lecture, she said
the greatest destroyer of peace
is abortion. She led women
away from abortion clinics
and toward alternatives. Let
us honor her by imitating her.
Mother Teresa, pray for us so that
we may defend life as you did.
Fr. Frank Pavone
We are asking for empty baby food jars that
will be used for an upcoming pro-life
project. These can be delivered to the Parish
Office. Thank you in advance for your support.
We extend an invitation to our parishioners to
share their testimonies and thoughts,
in accordance with Catholic Doctrine,
concerning abortion, euthanasia, and capital
punishment. These will be printed in our
weekly bulletin. These can be delivered
to the Parish Office.
SMM Parish prays to end death by
human hands: abortion, euthanasia,
and capital punishment.

LOS SIGNOS DEL RESUCITADO
Por Humberto Beltrán
Los que nos consideramos creyentes vivimos a
menudo como los discípulos del evangelio, al
anochecer, con las puertas cerradas, llenos de
miedo.
muerte.
no creeré”. Es lo que muchas veces oímos hoy
en día: “Si no lo veo, no lo creo”. Es que vivimos en un mundo dominado por los sentidos;
exigimos pruebas. De todo queremos tener
constancia y, muchas veces, las constancias
que tomamos como prueba son falsas. Deci-

Saturday, April 18th, 1 to 4 PM
St. John’s Seminary is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2015, making this an extra
special year to visit. Normally closed to the public, St. John’s has an Open House
once a year, FREE and open to the public. Seminarians conduct the tours, and
refreshments are provided. We ask all guests to register in advance,
car pool if they can and tell their friends and neighbors who may be interested.
Reservations are encouraged, but not required, at:
http://www.stjohnsseminaryopenhouse.eventbrite.com
For more information, (805) 389-2035
First time visitors to St. John’s and old friends are all welcome!
