PASTOR’S REFLECTION
THE DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION
Second Sunday of Easter
April 12, 2015
Sacred Scriptures and Church Tradition have always revealed
Jesus Christ as the Divine Mercy of God. The devotion to
Jesus as “The Divine Mercy of God is a recent devotion based
on the writings of St. Faustina, a Polish nun who, in obedience
to her spiritual director wrote a diary recording the revelations
she received about God’s mercy. Even before her death in
1938, the devotion to the Divine Mercy had begun to spread in
Poland. The message of mercy is that God loves us, all of us,
no matter how great our sins. God wants us to recognize that
His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon
Him with trust, receive His mercy and let it flow through to
others. Thus, all will come to share his joy. The message of
the mercy of God has always been integral to the proclamation
of the good news of our God. It is a message we can call to
mind simply by remembering ABC.
A - Ask For His Mercy; B - Be merciful (we follow Jesus in
showing forgiveness); C - Completely trust Jesus.
Dear Friends,
Just as the Heavenly Father sent his only Son into the
world...the Lord Jesus also sends us into the world to
complete the work that He has begun. The Spirit of
the Lord gives us the confidence and the guidance we
need so that, whatever we face, we may realize that
He is with us and that His love will never abandon us.

Do I trust that the Lord is truly my shepherd...and
I shall not want?
As you reflect on God’s Word, may He strengthen
you with His peace. May the good Lord bless you
and your dear family abundantly each day, particularly
during this Easter Season. Please pray for me.
In Christ,

FORTY HOURS OF
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
JUNE 11 TO 13
Our Patron, St. John Neumann brought this
Devotion to America. In our 35th Anniversary
as a Parish, let us give thanks to the Lord for his
Indescribable gift!!
MORE DETAILS WILL FOLLOW Day and
night Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament
because of His infinite love for you! “Behold, I
will be with you always even to the end of the
world” (Mt. 28:20), because “I have loved you
with an everlasting love, and constant is my
affection for you” (Jer. 31:3).
Devotion to The Divine Mercy involves a total commitment to
God as Mercy. This is a fact in our lives by virtue of our own
baptism. It is a decision to trust completely in Him, to accept
His Mercy with thanksgiving, and to be merciful as God is
merciful with us. Pope John Paul II, of happy memory,
introduced this devotion from his Polish homeland to the
Universal Church. The Holy Father suggested that the Sunday
after Easter (2nd Sunday of Easter) should observe this
beautiful devotion, even though, liturgically, it is still the
Second Sunday of Easter. The Holy Father also attached a
Plenary Indulgence for those who faithfully observe this
devotion. This “indulgence” is not automatically imparted on
the faithful. There are conditions to receive this indulgence
and all the conditions must be fulfilled. The conditions are as
follows:
•
Sacramental Confession (within 20 days before or after this
day)
•
Eucharistic Communion on this Sunday
•
Prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father
•
In the presence of the Blessed Sacrament (exposed or reserved
in the tabernacle, recite Our father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. “Merciful Jesus I
trust in you!”).
•
Practice a work of mercy for others
This is an indulgence; unlike the theologies that say “we are
washed in the blood of the lamb and there is nothing left to
do,” Catholic teaching respects the natural order of justice, as
Jesus clearly did in the Gospels, yet recognizes that humans
cannot forsee or undo all the temporal consequences of their
sin. However, God in His mercy will satisfy justice for what
we cannot repair. Trust in His Mercy and Love.
