大和スコラー2013　出身校ホームステイ今までの活動と今後の予定研修ジムはオックスフォード大学で法律課程を修了し、大和スコラーを開始した。日本語の勉強の他に、座禅、琴とテコンドーを学び旅行も楽しんだ。鹿児島、姶良市の魅力的な一か月のホームステイの後、世界的な法律事務所ホーガンロヴェルスの東京事務所で6ヵ月を過ごし、国際的な知的所有権に関して広範囲にわたる仕事を経験した。2015年4月から数年は東京大学法学部の准教授として英国法、日本法、国際法を教え、研究する。法学と法廷弁護士としての実践とを結ぶキャリアを目指し、日本法と関わり続けていく。ジェイムズ・フィッシャー James Fisher オックスフォード大学学士（法学・欧州法）＜ホームステイ＞鹿児島県　姶良市＜研修＞ホーガン・ロヴェルズ法律事務所 Jim began his Daiwa Scholarship after completing a law degree at the University of Oxford. In addition to Japanese language study, James has filled his time in Japan with zazen practice, travel, learning the koto and Taekwon-do. After a fascinating month of homestay in Kagoshima Prefecture, James spent six months at the Tokyo office of leading global law firm Hogan Lovells LLP, where he experienced a wide range of work concerning international intellectual property. In April 2015, James will take up the post of Associate Professor of Law at Tokyo University, where he will spend the next few years teaching and researching English, Japanese and international law. He obtained a bachelors and a masters degree in Physics from Imperial College London before coming to Japan. He came to Japan with the aim of deepening his understanding of the language and the culture especially the working environment in Japan. His homestay experience in Kagoshima and internship at S.Soga & Co. has thus proved extremely insightful. Further, he made it his mission to see as much of Japan as possible and has travelled all over the country from Hokkaido to Okinawa. He has also volunteered with groups providing aid to Tohoku. During the scholarship he developed an interest in entrepreneurship and in the short term hopes to continue with some projects whilst working towards the next goal. He studied theoretical physics in Imperial College London where he gained an MSci, First Class Hons., and the Associateship of the Royal College of Science (ARCS). In University, stemming from an interest in Japanese culture, he began taking Japanese lessons and assisted the Japanese Olympic team during their stay in Imperial College for the 2012 Olympic Games. His academic interest is in information processing technologies such as machine learning (and the eagerly anticipated quantum computers). He came to Japan to be able to communicate with Japan’s enormous technological industry. During his work placement in the University of Tokyo he created computer models and used Japanese traffic data to investigate the diminishing returns of increasing the number of lanes on highways. James will return to the UK in April and continue research into information processing. 西成研究室ベンジャミン・ウーテラムベンは　科学者で技術的エンジニアでもありアーティストでもある。マンチェスターで物理を専攻し、オックスフォードで液晶の博士課程を修了し、慶應大学でバーチャル・リアリティ（仮想現実）と触覚テクノロジーを開発している。テクノロジーと芸術の間の境界にあるプロジェクトに寄与した（最近公表された共感から発送したスマフォのアプリと仮想現実でジャグリングを行うプログラム含む）。人生哲学は、学び続け、創造し、将来の体験を技術にすることだ。大和スコラーの後に、カレッジ・ロンドンと協力して研修先の慶應メディアデザイン（KMD）と仮想現実における触覚インタフェースの研究のため、JSPSのポスドクに申請した。東南アジアを旅行しながら、自分のプロジェクトも取り組む予定で、コンピューター科学を勉強している。東京近辺で他の機会も探している。 Benjamin Outram オックスフォード大学博士（工学）＜ホームステイ＞鹿児島県　鹿屋市＜研修＞慶應義塾大学　メディアデザイン研究科 Ben is a scientist, technology engineer and tech artist. Having majored in physics at Manchester, and then in liquid-crystal science at Oxford during his PhD, he is now developing virtual reality and haptic technology at Keio University, Tokyo. He has been involved with a variety of projects at the interface between technology and art, including a recently-released synesthesiainspired smart phone app and virtual reality juggling. His life philosophy is to keep learning, creating and engineering the experiences of the future.After the Daiwa Scholarship, Ben will be developing his own projects and studying computer science while traveling in Southeast Asia, having applied for a JSPS Postdoctoral Scholarship to continue his research in force-haptic interfaces for virtual reality at Keio Media Design, in collaboration with University College London. He is also looking for other opportunities in the Tokyo area. 舘研究室ナターシャは、オックスフォード大学の学士（英文学と言語）、イーストアングリア大学の修士（文芸創作）を得て、大和スコラーとして来日した。1年の日本語学習のあと、北海道のまさに北の海辺の家庭で1 ヵ月を過ごした。そこで、可能な限り多くの国立公園を訪問し、日本を舞台とした新しい小説の構想を練った。6ヵ月の研修は早稲田大学国際教養部で文芸創作について学生に講義をした。主たる関心エリアは、歴史小説、ファンタジーとおとぎ話である。英国に帰国したら、再び学術的な仕事を見つけ、日本語の練習のために「ハリー・ポッター」の和訳本を読み続けることにしている。最初の小説, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street,は、英国で7月2日に発売される。ナターシャ・プリー Filigree Street,は、英国で7月2日に発売される。 Natasha Pulley イースト・アングリア大学修士（文芸創作）＜ホームステイ＞北海道　斜里町＜研修＞早稲田大学　国際コミュニケーション研究科 Natasha began the Daiwa Scholarship after completing in BA in English Literature and Language at Oxford University, and an MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. After a year of Japanese language study, she spent a month by the sea in the very north of Hokkaido, where she visited as many national parks as possible and researched a new writing project set in Japan. Her six-month work placement was at the School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, lecturing in Creative Writing. Her main areas of interest are historical fiction, fantasy, and fairytales. When she returns to the UK, she hopes to find academic work again, and to continue reading the Harry Potter books for Japanese practice. Her first novel, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street , will be released on July 2nd. 辛島研究室ベッカはウェールズの田舎生まれで、ウェールズ語と英語のバイリンガルの環境で育った。ゴールドスミスでファインアート、ケンブリッジでスクリーンメディアと文化を学んで、大和スコラーとして来日した。日本では現代アートと視覚的人類学の研究に時間を割き、それ以外の時にはカメラをもって東京を歩き回るか、キックボクシングをするか、和食を楽しんでいた。ホームステイでは石垣島のご家族と一か月を過ごし、島の文化についてフィルムを製作した。研修は、東京都写真美術館と東大の箭内研究室で行った。今年の9月からハーバード大学で博士課程を始める。ベッカ・ヴォルカー Becca Voelcker ケンブリッジ大学修士（映像メディアと文化）＜ホームステイ＞沖縄県　石垣市＜研修＞東京都写真美術館東京大学　箭内研究室 Becca grew up bilingually (Welsh-English) in rural Wales. After studying Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, and Screen Media and Cultures at the University of Cambridge, Becca came to Japan as a Daiwa Scholar. She spent much of her time in Japan researching contemporary art and visual anthropology. When not doing this, Becca was to be found either walking around Tokyo with her camera, or kickboxing, or enjoying Japanese food. Becca lived with a family on Ishigaki Island for her homestay, and made a film about its culture. She conducted work placements at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and the University of Tokyo. In September 2015, Becca will begin a PhD at Harvard University.
