On January 7, the team traveled to St. Joseph's in Muskogee to compete in the OAAC regional tournament. The team lost two games but was able to place in the top three which qualified them for the area tournament. The top scorers for the regional tournament were Ben Spencer and Aaron Ellis. The area tournament will be held on Wednesday, February 4th. South Rock Creek will be hosting the seven team tournament which will be held at Rock Creek Baptist Church. The top two teams will advance to the OAAC Tournament of Champions which is the state tournament held at the end of February. Go Rockets! The 8th grade calendar, upcoming events, and graduation information will be discussed. Mr. Higdon, from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, will be here to give invaluable information pertaining to high school and beyond. Transfer information and high school enrollment will be discussed in detail, as well. you may contact the County Assessor’s office at 275-4740. Board of Education building for clarification on specific deadlines and paperwork needed. Open Transfer If your student plans on attending a high school in which he/she does not live in that particular school’s district, you must fill out an “Application for an Open Transfer.” If you are not sure which school district you live in, The specific details surrounding the “Application for an Open Transfer” have recently changed, so please do not hesitate to contact the respective high school’s Shawnee Public Schools: 878-3125 Tecumseh Public Schools: 598-3739 Bethel Public Schools: 273-0385 Earlsboro Public School: 997-5252 Pre-Enrollment Ms. Foresee, Shawnee High School Counselor, will be at SRC on February 9th, at 9:00 a.m. to go over enrollment with all those attending SHS in the fall. Parents are welcome to attend, however, Ms. Foresee will have a Parent Night on February 17th, at SHS Performing Arts Center. Students that will be attending Tecumseh High School in the fall will be taking a tour on March 5th. We will be leaving SRC around 10 a.m. Students will receive all needed enrollment paperwork at this time. Tecumseh High School will have enrollment on February 10th and February 12th, 4:30—8:30 p.m., at THS. Suicide Prevention Training Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for Oklahoma youth ages 10 to 24 and Oklahoma ranks 13th in the nation for deaths by suicide. The recent passage of House Bill 1623 encourages schools to provide training and curriculum to reduce the growing public health problem of suicide. HeartLine will be at SRC to Page 2 provide suicide prevention training to all parents of 7th and 8th grade students. The Parent Night will be on March 2nd, at 6:00 p.m., in the cafeteria. Please come and learn how to effectively recognize and respond to suicide warning signs. Students in the 7th and 8th grades will attend a class that teaches youth the warning signs of suicide and how to connect to help when they recognize the signs in themselves or others. The class will be offered by HeartLine on March 3rd, during school. A letter will be sent home with 7th/8th grade students closer to March. Parents, you will be able to opt your child out of the class if you so choose. Teachers are preparing students for this important test now. Please make sure your student is getting plenty of sleep each evening, eating three healthy meals every day, and is on time and prepared for school each day. Practice these important habits daily, not just the week of testing. Homeland Coupon Booklets What is a Homeland Coupon Booklet? It is a fundraiser that Homeland does to help out local non-profit groups and it is filled with $35 in coupons. They cost $5.00, but on the back you will find a coupon for $5 off your purchase of $50 or more. So…basically you get your money back after your first trip to Homeland.
