HELP NEEDED FOR WINTER PICNIC If you are available on Saturday, February 7 @ 12:00 Noon help is needed in setting up in the gym for the Cabin fever picnic. Please consider helping to make this a success! FIRST READING (NLT) Deuteronomy 18:15-20 Moses continued, “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you yourselves requested of the LORD your God when you were assembled at Mount Sinai.[a] You said, ‘Don’t let us hear the voice of the LORD our God anymore or see this blazing fire, for we will die.’ 17 “Then the LORD said to me, ‘What they have said is right. 18 I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him. 19 I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf. 20 But any prophet who falsely claims to speak in my name or who speaks in the name of another god must die.’ R: This is the Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God P: HOLY GOSPEL (NLT) Mark 1:21-28 Jesus and his companions went to the town of Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike the teachers of religious law. 23 Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil[a] spirit began shouting, 24 “Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 25 Jesus cut him short. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. 26 At that, the evil spirit screamed, threw the man into a convulsion, and then came out of him. 27 Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. “What sort of new teaching is this?” they asked excitedly. “It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!” 28 The news about Jesus spread quickly throughout the entire region of Galilee. R: This is the Gospel of the Lord C: Praise To You, O Christ New 2015 contribution envelopes are in! Please pick them up in the Narthex. If you do not find a set of envelopes and would like some, there will be a sign up sheet for them.
