“When I have a terrible need of – dare I say, 'religion'? – then I go outside at night and paint the stars." -- Vincent Van Gogh
MUSIC NOTE: The psaltery is a stringed instrument that can be traced to the 3rd century, B.C. An instrument
of many forms, the psaltery was originally plucked like the harp. The bowed psaltery appeared in the early 20th
century. Unlike other stringed instruments, each string is a single note with the naturals on the right side and the
flats/sharps on the left. When played, the sound is not dampened with the fingers, the sound is sustained. Some
common descriptions of the sound include: icy, ethereal, and haunting. How would you describe the sound of
the psaltery?

VOICES FROM THE HOLY LAND: A six-week film series co-sponsored by Grace Presbyterian Church,
Ravensworth Baptist Church, and Palestinian Christian Alliance for Peace. After three generations, why is peace
in Israel-Palestine so hard to achieve? How are issues of justice and human rights playing out in this so-called
“conflict?” How do we understand our own government’s policies and actions in being an “honest-broker” in
the Middle East? These are the types of broad questions addressed by a coalition of churches and church-related
organizations in the Virginia-D.C. area. “Voices From the Holy Land” Film Series starts on Sunday,
February 15, 2015. This series, open to the public and free, will be screen on six successive Sundays @ 2:30pm
at Grace Presbyterian Church [7434 Bath Street, Springfield, VA 22150]. By exploring these complex, difficult,
and emotional issues through the voices and eyes of the people living in Israel-Palestine, this coalition hopes to
show that:

Israel-Palestine history is complicated

Life under occupation is difficult and unfair

Israel-Palestine “conflict” affects not only Jews and Muslims, but Palestinian Christian communities

“Christian Zionism” serves to conflate and confuse biblical Israel with the modern State of Israel

Small groups of Israelis and Palestinians are coming together to promote peaceful solutions

US policies and US media have affected our understanding of the current “conflict”

There is still reason to hope
