From the Pastor Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This weekend we will be doing our “in-pew” solicitation for the Diocesan Development Campaign being conducted by the Diocese of Tulsa. Since we are all Catholics I presume that we would like to see our various Diocesan Departments hard at work for the well-being of our Catholic people who live in Eastern Oklahoma. I think if we each give something to this Campaign we’ll easily be able to make our goal of $17,500.00. If you have already contributed or pledged to the DDF this year you will not have to do so again today. This “in-pew” solicitation is for those who are not registered in the Diocese and thus have not received the personal letter of invitation from the Bishop to participate in this Campaign. Or if by accident the letter and envelope were discarded this is another opportunity to participate. Let me know if you have any questions. This Sunday night at 7:30 p.m there will be an INFORMATION NIGHT for parents of the adolescents who are forming the first group of youth that the parish will be working with in a new approach. There will be food available and the meeting will take place in the Sr. Jamesetta Room. Anyone interested in learning about the new approach the parish will be taking with regard to working with our adolescents are invited to attend this meeting. We are coming into a busy time of the year with Lent and the preparation for the reception of the Sacraments by many of our religious education and school children. Lent begins next Wednesday, February 18th with the distribution of the ashes. Our Mass schedule is as follows: 8:30 a.m. School February 8, 2015 Mass, 11:00 a.m. Latin Low Mass, 5:30 p.m. English Mass, 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Spanish Masses. At each of the Masses the ashes will be distributed. Starting on Sunday, February 22nd Father Juan Pablo and I have decided to begin offering a Spanish Mass at 7:30 a.m. for those who would like to go to Mass earlier in the day. We are also wondering if we should change our Mass schedule on Sundays to the following: 9:00 a.m. English Mass (stays the same), the Latin Mass would change to 10:30 a.m. and the Spanish Mass to 12:30 p.m. Nothing has been decided yet but we would like your reaction to the proposed schedule. If we do decide to change the Sunday Mass schedule we will let you know about a month or two in advance. You can send me an email with your comments: [email protected]. We are still looking for additional funds for our St. Toribio Chapel project. I would like to thank those of you who have offered to help in some way and have come up with some great ideas. The food sales, the raffle, the Carnival proceeds, and individual donations will all be used to eliminate the $200,000.00 that is looming over our heads and will have to be paid back to the Diocese. Mr. Staab volunteered to pay the interest on whatever loan we end up receiving from the Diocese. I will keep you informed of our progress. God bless you this week and may your guardian angel watch over you with love. Sincerely yours, Father Timothy Davison If I were to begin life again, I would want it as it was. I would only open my eyes a little more. Jules Renard If you would be loved, love and be loveable. DDF This weekend we would like to remind those who have received a letter from Bishop Slattery to prayerfully consider a gift to the 2015 Diocesan Development Fund. Faith is expressed in so many ways. It is what you believe in your heart and reveal in your actions. DDF is what what brings the faith to so many in our diocese. The ministries that are funded by DDF gifts assure us that our faith will continue for generations. Please be as generous as your means will allow, so that these ministries can continue to serve your fellow Catholics in your diocese and parish. HEALING MINISTRY During Jesus’ s ministry “he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons.” This is the case in today’s Gospel. Jesus fulfills the vision of Psalm 147: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Jesus knew, however, that he couldn’t possibly heal all the illnesses in the world. No matter how many people he cured or how many hours he ministered, there always would be more suffering people like Job who craved his healing touch. His primary mission was not to rid the world of all suffering. His “purpose” was to preach the coming of the reign of God that heals, yes, but ultimately transcends and transforms earthly suffering. With Paul, Jesus could have said, “Woe to me if I do not preach.”
