On Friday 21st November, the Year 5
children were visited by a team from
Hampshire Fire and Rescue, to have a
Road Safety Day. The children were
first introduced to the team and
watched a series of video clips that
highlighted the need to be vigilant
when crossing the road and how we
often miss things that we should be
more aware of - ask them about the
dancing bear!!
After that both classes had two
sessions, one with the bike experts and
one considering who was to blame for a
road traffic accident. The children
really enjoyed learning how to make a
basic check of a bike, to make sure it is
safe to ride - the M check! The
discussions that the children had on
this day were incredibly mature and
they really showed how seriously they
take road safety.
We all agreed it was a very worthwhile
event and one that we hope to repeat in
future years.

Staff News
After 4 years at Shamblehurst, Katie Viola (Year 1 teacher) is leaving us at Christmas to join
a junior school in Southampton. Katie started her teaching career with us and we have
appreciated her dedication and commitment to Shamblehurst.
We have successfully appointed a new Year 1 teacher, Hannah Rhodes, who will start with
us on 1 January 2015. We will ensure that she settles in quickly.
We have also appointed a Learning Support Assistant, Christie Fitzhenry, who will work
alongside children who need additional support.
We are pleased to welcome two new members to our lunch team: Suzanne Challis and
Christine Lizzimore. Suzanne has already started with us and Christine will start in a week’s
time.
We hope you will join us in welcoming all our new members of staff.

Our final collection total for
Children in Need was £390.04.
Well done everyone.
Celebrating Success
We would like to share the success of an ex-pupil of Shamblehurst, Emma Allen. Emma has
just left Wildern School and now represents England at golf, at international level! She is also
hoping to be part of the Great Britain team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. You may have seen
Emma in Hello! magazine recently, when she met HRH Kate Middleton and was on the
national news. Emma has successfully won a scholarship to the University of Missouri in the
USA.
We very much look forward to following Emma’s career, as well as those of ex-pupils we hear
about. A very motivational story.
Christmas is only round the corner and it’s time to get
into the festive spirit
On Tuesday 2nd December, FOSSA will be holding a Christmas Fayre after School. There will be Stalls,
Raffle, Christmas Games, Face Painting, Refreshments and a special visit from Santa and his helper.
We are also selling Christmas Wreaths which can be pre-ordered for collection at the Fayre.
If you would like a stall at the Fayre please contact Lesley Ann Barton at [email protected]
If you are having a clear out before Christmas and have any old toys, FOSSA would be happy to take
these off your hands. There will be a box in reception to deposit your toys. We are also looking for any
wicker baskets or hampers you could donate.
Cake on a plate will be the day of the Fayre. Plates were sent home yesterday. Please send cakes in on
Tuesday 2 December.
Thank you for all the contributions received for our non-uniform day yesterday. These will make fantastic
prizes.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Fayre
