Dear Parent
Friday 14 November
This Friday is the annual ‘Children in Need’ appeal. To take part in this event and to raise funds for this
worthwhile cause the school will hold a ‘mufti’ day. Students can, if they wish, wear a superhero themed outfit,
however, this is not essential. A contribution of £1 will be collected at the start of the day to go towards this
appeal. As usual, any students who have PE on Friday should bring their PE kit as normal.
Uniform
As autumn is now with us and winter approaches can I take this opportunity to remind parents about
coats/outdoor wear and footwear. A QKS sweatshirt is a compulsory item and should be worn at all times in the
winter months. Outdoor coats should be waterproof and hoodies cannot be worn as an alternative to a coat or a
school sweatshirt. Wellies can be worn to and from school but students must change into their plain black
footwear during school hours. As a reminder hoodies are not allowed to be worn in school.
Online Shopping through School Angel
So far we have raised well over £500 for new library books through using School Angel. Some of us may be
planning to start Christmas shopping, can I therefore remind everyone of our School Angel page, which can be
accessed either through our website or through schoolangel.org.uk
You can use this site to access your usual online shopping websites. You will notice no difference to the usual
method of online shopping but the school will benefit from every purchase you make. It is an easy and simple way
to help us to raise funds to purchase more books for our library. All the major retailers, including Amazon, have a
presence through School Angel as do many travel sites for those looking for a last minute break. Please tell your
friends and family about our page and help us to raise funds for the school.
School Reception
From 17 November we will be extending our reception and switchboard opening hours from 8 am until 4.30 pm.
E-mail addresses
If you have not let our office know your e-mail address, can you please let Mrs Henderson know the address you
wish us to use. Please contact her directly on [email protected]
Any correspondence can then be e-mailed home rather than sent with students. Please make sure you update Mrs
Henderson too when you change phone number(s), as it is obviously essential for us to be able to make contact.

QKS Christmas Music Concert, Tuesday, 16 December, 7 pm at Kendal Parish Church
Our annual Christmas Concert featuring many of the music groups at QKS. Often described as the perfect way
to start Christmas in Kendal, this concert is free to all with a retiring collection for the Church.
Support the QKS Community Music Centre by donating unwanted instruments
Do you have an unused instrument at home? By donating it to The QKS Community Music Centre you will give
young musicians from age 5 and up a chance to develop and experience a range of instruments. All instruments
would be greatly received, and we would particularly appreciate violins from 1/4 size upwards, recorders, guitars
from half size upwards and electric keyboards.
Yours sincerely

Dear Parent
Queen Katherine School Association 200 Club
Would you like to help the school and at the same time have the chance of winning up to £100?
The Queen Katherine School Association runs a 200 Club: for £10 per year each member is allocated a draw number. Once
a term a draw is made with a £100 first prize and a number of smaller prizes depending upon the total fund. Half the money
raised goes into the School Association funds and half back to the members in prizes.
Last year 117 numbers were sold, not as much as the previous years, but with your support we are looking to beat that this
year. The more numbers purchased, the greater the amount raised for both the school and for prizes.
During the last 12 months the Queen Katherine School Association funded many projects for the benefit of all students
including Ipads for LRC (£669.07), Display panels (£498.00), Islam visits & Art Day (£618.09), lower hall projector equipment
(£1,332.50), Holocaust visit (£180), baseball net (£416.67) and many more besides!
The 200 Club last year raised £585 for the school and a similar amount was awarded in prizes; please help to continue this
success by joining us.
If you would like to become a member please complete the form below and return it to school reception with your
remittance by the Monday, 17 November 2014.
Thank you and good luck to any new members!
Severine Rault
200 Club Secretary

The School Association is run by volunteers for the benefit of all students. If you can spare any time to help with any
of the events we help to organise throughout the school year, please get in touch with Pauline Bell
([email protected]). Without the help from new volunteers, many of those projects wouldn’t be
funded.
