A professional learning environment is a social practice in which research,
education and professional practice (businesses, government, societal
communities) are integrated. For successful implementation of such a hybrid
environment, design knowledge is needed that underpins this integration. This
design knowledge is presented here as a set of seven design principles which
can be used as guidelines for developing professional learning environments.
