A2(L) PROTOCOL OFFICER – DEFENCE SECTION
The British Embassy in Seoul is looking to recruit an A2(L) Protocol Officer in the Defence Section, with
an ideal start date in February 2015. This will be a Full-Time position until 30 June 2016.
Opportunity Offered
The jobholder will be working in the Defence Section of the Embassy, contributing to the enhancement
of the UK Military footprint within Korea and North East Asia.
Main Duties





Manage the Defence Attaché’s busy Diary to include meetings, conferences and social events.
Liaise with ROK Military, US Military and other Embassies to support the Defence Attaché in carrying
out his duties.
Contribute to the detailed planning of many high level visits to Korea and also Reverse visits to the
UK.
Build and maintain relationships with key contacts/stakeholders within various National and
International departments.
Provide translation/interpretation during meetings and advise the Defence Attaché on local
customs and traditions.
Requirements
Essential
 Must be fluent in both written and spoken English and Korean.
 Must be willing to undergo security clearance procedures.
 A self-starter and innovative with the ability to initiate work and see it through to completion. Able
to seek advice and assistance when necessary. The successful candidate will have a cooperative and
collegiate approach to working with colleagues.
 Able to communicate (written, verbally and prepare presentations) with a range of contacts from a
diverse range of sectors and ministries.
 Must be able to work to tight deadlines amid ever changing priorities.
Highly Desirable
 Previous experience of working within Military environments.
 Must be flexible and willing to cover for other Defence section staff in their absence.

Compensation package includes



Monthly salary starting from KRW 2,828,128 payable 12 times per year
Flexible working hours, time off in lieu offered for extra hours
