Analyst in the Defence Attaché Office at the Swiss Embassy in Abu Dhabi
The Defence Attaché Office at the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is
offering a full-time position as an analyst to a motivated and qualified university graduate (only for
Swiss citizens).
Job Description
The analyst will work under the direct supervision of the Swiss Defence Attaché on a broad range of
political and security issues, research and analysis in the gulf region. He or she will provide reporting,
analysis and also administrative support to the office, including the organization of representational
functions, events, supporting of visiting delegations, attendance of conferences and exhibitions, etc.
Defence Attaché Office
The Defence Attaché Office represents the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport
in the gulf region and is accredited to the UAE, Saudiarabia and the Yemen. It is part of the Swiss
embassy and works closely together with the other sections, also in order to foster bilateral
understanding and cooperation.
Main duties and responsibilities include
Monitoring, researching and providing of analysis on a wide range of security policy topics and
trends in relation with the UAE, but especially Saudiarabia and Yemen, as well as the whole region;
Tracking of news and developments from traditional sources, newspapers, websites, web blogs,
think-tanks, conferences, etc.;
Drafting of a weekly security policy report on behalf of different departments in the Federal
administration and editing of studies, papers and selected reports about specific topics, etc..
Qualifications required
Master’s degree in Middle Eastern Politics, Political Science, History, International Relations or
related fields with strong analytical, research and writing skills;
Knowledge of and strong interest in Gulf security politics, international affairs and the Arab world in
general;
Excellent English skills – Arabic is a further and important asset;
Strong internet research, interpersonal and social skills to work in a diplomatic, multi-cultural and in
many ways challenging background context;
Readiness to adapt to and ability to live in the specific environment of the Gulf region; etc..
