Church International.
October 2014 |MESSENGER
From 1984 - 1986, the AWPC family generously gave
their time, utilized their talents and invested their hardearned money in building the sanctuary we have enjoyed
for the past 28 years. Men and women worked countless
hours, members gave sacrificially, and God gave a spirit
of revival to Atlanta West. Legacy members testify of
multiple miracles that made the dream of a new church
campus a reality.
Fast forward to 2014. We worship in a sanctuary that
is structurally sound but badly in need of updating and
renovation. Like the miracle of the clothes and shoes of
the Israelites that did not wear out for 40 years, our carpet
and pews have held up well. (See Deuteronomy 29:5.)
However, this is a new day, and we are overdue for a new
and improved sanctuary.
You may wonder why we are choosing to remodel instead
of relocating or building on our current site. Relocation
is always a future option but is not feasible at this time
due to the cost and the time it would take to build. Our
church board explored the possibility of building a new
worship center on our existing property, but due to creek
buffers, easements and setbacks, it is impractical. Even
the proposal of an expanded parking lot was rejected by
the county for the same reasons.
4. Install state-of-the-art lighting that will be both
beautiful and energy efficient.
5. Relocate our production center for improved media
management and worship experience.
6. Install a conveniently located Welcome Center,
providing a better experience for our guests.
In addition to the interior renovations, in order to protect
the work inside, we invested in a long-term solution for
our roof, having all three sections of our main building
professionally seamed and treated. We are also creating a
new multi-purpose space, the Family Life Center Chapel,
for groups up to 60 people.
God has given His “seal of approval” on AWPC 2.0
by blessing our efforts. He knows we are passionately
committed to our search and rescue mission for lost people.
This renovation will make an appreciable difference in
the worship experience. Our modernized sanctuary will
aesthetically and functionally reflect the excellence of the
God we worship.
The renovations related to AWPC 2.0 will require
significant financial expenditure, as the cost to complete
all proposed projects will approach $300,000. However,
these improvements are merely 10% of the cost of a new
stand-alone sanctuary if we were able to build on our
existing site with no land costs.
We desperately need more space now, or we cannot grow
to the place where a relocation, that would cost millions
of dollars, would become a viable option. Since we cannot
build on our site or relocate at this time, we prayerfully
decided to start a second Sunday morning service. Since
we are committed to our Skyview Drive campus for at When the Tabernacle in the wilderness was constructed,
