Term 2 Week 3 2014 - Sanctuary Point Public School

Term 2 Week 3 2014
Sanctuary Point Breakfast Club
Grace Rey has recently moved to Sanctuary Point from Potts Point. Grace told us how she loves to get
involved with the community in which she lives. When she found out we had a Breakfast Club, she was
excited about how she could help out. Grace has very kindly donated a variety of spreads, a new
toaster and most importantly her time on a Thursday morning to connect with her new community.
Thank you Grace and welcome to our school.

WHAT IMPRESSED ME THIS WEEK
This week I was impressed by the artwork done by South Africa with Mrs Hughes and the artworks done
by Cuba for the Sea Change Festival with Mrs Garin and Mrs Rhodes. Congratulations to the students
for your great work.
OUR SCHOOL MOVING FORWARD
CREATE A CULTURE OF FEEDBACK ACROSS THE SCHOOL
Feedback that is: FREQUENT, SPECIFIC, TIMELY. If feedback is rare, ambiguous or late then it is
worthless.
Feedback should be linked to a goal or agreed standard and should focus on what is wanted.
Feedback should focus on the positive and be corrective: USE POSITIVE FEEDBACK.
Feedback should have the best interest of the recipient at heart.
Feedback should become normalised—build a culture of feedback.
NAPLAN TESTING
The NAPLAN Testing is now complete for 2014 although we can run some students through catch-up
tests tomorrow if they have missed any.
The results of these tests are valuable for us to see how we are going as a school compared to other
schools across Australia.
We expect the results to be available for parents of those sitting the test in August this year and they will
be sent home as soon as we get them. Our school results will be available on MySchool website in
November.
VISIT BY UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG STUDENTS
This morning almost 30 students from Wollongong University came to visit our school as part of their
course. They were looking at our work in Aboriginal education as well as the 21st Century Learning
teaching methods we have put in place.
Thank you to Angela King for bringing the students to our school. We like to show off our great school
and our amazing students and staff. We hope the students got as much out of it as we did for having
them.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
Next Thursday is school photo day. All students need to be in school uniform (not sport uniform) on
that day and at school on time for their photos.
Orders and payments can be made up to the day the photos are taken. Payment envelopes go directly
to the photographer. On the day all students are photographed whether they are ordering photos or
not.
WORDS OF THE WEEK
F-E-A-R has two meanings:
Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise…..the choice is yours.

Help us save the African Elephants
Hi, We are from 5/6 Syria. In class we are working on a
project on an endangered animal. We have chosen the
African Elephants because they are such a helpful and
amazing creature. Did you know that the African
Elephants spread tree species by depositing their dung?
This also helps to fertilise our ecosystem. Its proven that
we need them.
In 1979 there were 1.3million African Elephants, a
decade later there were only 600 000 left! Without our
help African Elephants will be wiped from the face of the
earth. Please help us save the elephants today. For
more information please visit www.wwf.org.au
Buddy Bench
The Buddy Bench was a concept introduced by a young boy in America and is
becoming an evergrowing concept in schools across the world.
Sanctuary Point Public School has joined many other schools by providing a
buddy bench for our students.
We recently received an email from Christian and his family (the founders of the
buddy bench) they were so impressed with our initiative and keen for regular
updates and photos of the buddy bench in action.

The students in Scotland have enjoyed talking about themselves. The Kindergarten
students wrote their story on our new chalkboards and made a collage.
The students in Year 1 have typed their story and added their photograph to their writing.
We are so clever!
District Cross Country
On Friday last week, students from our school travelled to Tomerong to compete in the
District Cross Country. These boys and girls represented our school with pride and
determination and it was fantastic to see them giving their all. The weather gods turned up
and added to the success of the carnival. Three students from our school finished in the top
5 in their races and will be now heading to the Regional Carnival on the 30th of May.
Congratulations to Charlie Heldon, Penny Holloway and Thomas Pearson. Reminder to these
students about the training days on Tuesdays the 20th and 27th of May at 3:45. Thanks to all
the parents who attended the day and helped out with transport and setting up, in particular
Bruce.
Cheers

The Basin Preschool
The Basin Preschool still currently have vacancies. We enrol children from 2-5years of
age and families have the choice of a long day care program-8.30am-4.30pm or a
preschool program 9.15am-3.15pm at our centre. All of our staff are highly qualified
with an early childhood teacher on the premises full time. Families provide a packed
lunch with morning tea and we work closely with Sanctuary Point Public School through
the transition to school program and other events that we are invited to. We enjoy close
links with our community and parent involvement at the centre
