NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK IS MAY 18 - 24, 2014
The Dexter C. White Memorial 5K Walk/Run in memory
of the late Dexter C. White, Deputy Commissioner of
the Department of Public Works will officially kick off
National Public Works Week 2014 for the
City of Atlanta.
An avid runner, Commissioner White encouraged living
a healthy lifestyle. The City Atlanta benefitted tremendously from Commissioner White’s work ethic and
professional experience. Under his direction, Public
Works established its first sustainability initiatives in
fleet management with the implementation of
compressed natural gas vehicles, electric charging
stations, and combined routes for solid waste pick-up
services.
Mr. White was a leader in the field of public works and
recipient of numerous professional accolades. He was
a very active member of the American Public Works
Association and was an established leader in the Solid
Waste Association of North America, and the National
Forum of Black Public Administrators.
The City of Atlanta Department of Public Works has
partnered with the Dexter C. White Memorial Committee to kick off National Public Works Week with the
DCW Memorial 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds from this
inaugural 2014 event will benefit an educational fund for
his children.
Registration is required for the Dexter C. White 5K Memorial Walk. Register online at www.eventbrite.com or visit any
Public Works facility Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. until May 16, 2014.
