Dear Parents,
Flushed
During Term 2, a number of Year Six students auditioned for a new
children’s TV Show called ‘Flushed’. From these auditions 6 teams were
chosen to be filmed at Fox Studios in Moore Park. On June 24th Miss
Phillips and Miss Mataele escorted the teams and twenty-nine audience
members to the studios where the students played games and competed
against each other to be the best team. In a few months’ time we will be
able to watch the students from St Johns Park Public School on the small
screen.

Public Education Open Day
A big thank you to the parents who attended the Open Day held on
Thursday, 31st July between 9.30am and 11.30am. Parents enjoyed the
opportunity to visit classrooms and take part in their child/children’s
learning.

ICAS Science Results
Congratulations to all the students who entered the ICAS Science St Johns Park Public School
Competition. The school was successful in achieving nine Merits, twenty- Sandringham St,
eight Credits, seventeen Distinctions and eleven High Distinctions. Well St Johns Park
done!

National Tree Day
Thank you to Mrs Tran for organising tree planting at the school to
celebrate National Tree Day. Every class had the opportunity to plant a
tree in one of the school gardens. Thank you also to Mr Jankulovski for
assisting on the day.

What’s happening in 2H?
Wet Weather - Round 5 Results (01.08.14)
In Term 2, 2H learnt about water in Science and is currently
learning about transport in Human Society and Its
Environment. We surveyed water usage at home and the
forms of transport our class uses to get home from
school. Then we used our skill in Mathematics to create
picture and column graphs based the survey findings.

DEBATING
On Friday, 8th August, 2014 forty-eight students will
be competing at the Horsley Zone Athletics
Carnival. They will be supervised by Miss Phillips,
Mrs Turner and Mr Lardner.
Time: 8.40am - all students must be at school by this
time
Cost: $6.00
Venue: Rosford Reserve, Smithfield
What to bring: Lunch, recess, bottle of water and
sunscreen. Spikes can be worn for 100m, 200m and
jumping events only.
What to wear: School sports uniform including
sports shoes.

Phonics Working Bee
Trong học kỳ 2, một nhóm học sinh lớp sáu của
trường đã tham gia thử tài cho chương trình
truyền hình mới dành cho thiếu nhi có tên là
“Flushed”. Từ sáu nhóm tham gia, học sinh
trường chúng ta được chọn để tham gia chương
trình đó tại phim trường Fox Studios ở Moore
Park. Vào ngày 24/06/14, cô Phillips và cô Mataele
đã đưa nhóm này và thêm 29 em tham dự trong
vai trò khán giả tới thi đấu qua trò chơi và trường
chúng ta đã thắng. Một vài tháng nữa chương
trình này sẽ được trình chiếu trên hệ thống truyền
hình nước Úc.
Trân trọng cảm ơm một nhóm phụ huynh, rất
nhiệt tình, nhũng quý vị , đã dành thời giờ quý báu
giúp trong việc làm sách đánh vần cho học sinh.
Thật tuyệt vời khi có một cộng đồng và hội phụ
huynh tốt luôn giúp đỡ trường chúng ta.
ICAS Science Results
Chúc mừng các học sinh tham gia thi giải Khoa
Học Kỹ Thuật. Các em đã đạt được kết quả như
sau: 9 giải khuyến khích, 28 hạng Khá, 17 hạng
Giỏi và 11 hạng Xuất sắc.
Book Week
Tuần thứ 6 trong học kỳ 3, trường chúng ta sẽ tổ
chức mừng tuần lễ về sách báo. Tiêu đề của năm
nay là: ‘Kết nối với Đọc sách – Đọc sách để kết
nối’. Mỗi khối lớp sẽ tham gia thi đua đọc sách với
các đề tài khác nhau. Có giải thưởng cho từng lớp.
Giải nhất của mỗi khối sẽ có phần thưởng là một
quyển truyện và một chứng từ trị giá $10 để mua
sách trong ngày hội bán sách của Scholastic.
Tất cả những hoạt động yêu cầu cho đề tài dự thi
phải hoàn tất vào ngày Thứ Sáu, 08/08/14.
Buổi trình diễn phục trang về các nhân vật trong
truyện sẽ được tổ chức vào ngày Thứ Ba, 19/08/14.
Tree Day
Cám ơn cô Trần đã sắp xếp tổ chức thành công
cho ngày Trồng cây toàn quốc. Tất cả các lớp đã
có cơ hội trồng cây của mình. Cám ơn nhân viên
bảo trì, ông Jankulovski, đã nhiệt tình phụ giúp
trong ngày đó.

六月二十四日，本校一群六年级学生在Miss Phillips
衷心感谢家长百忙中抽空帮助我们制作拼音教学资
及Miss Mataele 的带领下，到Moore Park的Fox 片场
源。
参加了一个名为Flushed的儿童电视节目的面试，随
行还有二十九名观众。当日各同学跟来自其他学校的
代校长
队伍进行游戏竞赛。数月后，我们将可以在屏幕上看

ICAS Science Results
今年的小说人物游行周将于八月十九日星期二举
恭贺所有参加ICAS 科学比赛的同学。我校共获九
行，主题为 “与阅读联系－用阅读去联系”。全
校各级均会参与比赛，比赛作品必须于八月八日
常、二十八良、十七优及十一优异。
星期五前交回。每级优胜者会获得价值十元的书

Our school will be celebrating Children’s Book Week during Week 6 in Term 3. The theme for this year is
‘Connect to Reading- Reading to Connect’. Each grade will participate in a Book Week competition. Class book
prizes will be awarded. Grade winners will receive a book and a $10 voucher to spend at the Scholastic Book
Fair. The competitions are as follows:
Kindergarten will be studying “Granny, Grommet and
Me” by Dianne Wolfer. In class, students will create an
aquatic scene using a blue background with characters
pasted on using the collage technique.
Year One will be studying the story “King Pig”. The
students can use wool, crumpled paper, felt, pipe
cleaners etc to dress the king in a butterfly outfit.
Year Two will be reading a text called “The Treasure
Box” by Margaret Wild. Students are asked to
decorate a small treasure box using coloured paper
and craft items. The small box should be around the
size of a teabag or chocolate box. Alternatively a
cardboard template can be provided.
Year Three will be studying “Meet Captain Cook” by
Rae Murdie. Students will be provided with a template
of Captain Cook which they are asked to colour, paint
or collage at home.

Year Four students will be studying "Jandamarra"
which is an information book. The students will create
a scene (bush, gorge, plain, boab trees, river, cave etc)
from the story using paint, crayons, pencils and some
collage. Students can use the image of Jandamarra on
the cliff top to assist them. Stick onto cardboard to
make it stronger.
Year Five students will be studying "Rules of Summer".
Students are asked to create a scene that represents
what Summer means to them using paint, crayons,
pencils, digital, collage or any other type of media.
Think of sunshine, ice cream, thongs, swimming, beach
umbrellas, summer fruit, exotic flowers, picnics, fishing
etc.
Year Six will be reading “Light Horse Boy” which is set
in 1914. Students will use charcoal, lead pencils or black
crayons to represent a page from the text depicting a
light horse man and his horse. Attention should be
paid to details such as the uniform and weapons
provided to these soldiers in WWI.
