Johns Park Public School Newsletter St St Johns Park News Term 3, Week 4 Monday, 4th August, 2014. From The Principal’s Desk Dear Parents, Flushed During Term 2, a number of Year Six students auditioned for a new children’s TV Show called ‘Flushed’. From these auditions 6 teams were chosen to be filmed at Fox Studios in Moore Park. On June 24th Miss Phillips and Miss Mataele escorted the teams and twenty-nine audience members to the studios where the students played games and competed against each other to be the best team. In a few months’ time we will be able to watch the students from St Johns Park Public School on the small screen. Book Character Parade Tuesday 19.08.14 Public Education Open Day A big thank you to the parents who attended the Open Day held on Thursday, 31st July between 9.30am and 11.30am. Parents enjoyed the opportunity to visit classrooms and take part in their child/children’s learning. Come dressed as your favourite book character. We surveyed water usage at home and the forms of transport our class uses to get home from school. Then we used our skill in Mathematics to create picture and column graphs based the survey findings. Term 3, Week 4 Page 2 Translations Flushed Phonics Working Bee Trong học kỳ 2, một nhóm học sinh lớp sáu của trường đã tham gia thử tài cho chương trình truyền hình mới dành cho thiếu nhi có tên là “Flushed”. Từ sáu nhóm tham gia, học sinh trường chúng ta được chọn để tham gia chương trình đó tại phim trường Fox Studios ở Moore Park. Vào ngày 24/06/14, cô Phillips và cô Mataele đã đưa nhóm này và thêm 29 em tham dự trong vai trò khán giả tới thi đấu qua trò chơi và trường chúng ta đã thắng. Một vài tháng nữa chương trình này sẽ được trình chiếu trên hệ thống truyền hình nước Úc. Trân trọng cảm ơm một nhóm phụ huynh, rất nhiệt tình, nhũng quý vị , đã dành thời giờ quý báu giúp trong việc làm sách đánh vần cho học sinh. Thật tuyệt vời khi có một cộng đồng và hội phụ huynh tốt luôn giúp đỡ trường chúng ta. ICAS Science Results Chúc mừng các học sinh tham gia thi giải Khoa Học Kỹ Thuật. Các em đã đạt được kết quả như sau: 9 giải khuyến khích, 28 hạng Khá, 17 hạng Giỏi và 11 hạng Xuất sắc. Book Week Tuần thứ 6 trong học kỳ 3, trường chúng ta sẽ tổ chức mừng tuần lễ về sách báo. Tiêu đề của năm nay là: ‘Kết nối với Đọc sách – Đọc sách để kết nối’. Mỗi khối lớp sẽ tham gia thi đua đọc sách với các đề tài khác nhau. Có giải thưởng cho từng lớp. Giải nhất của mỗi khối sẽ có phần thưởng là một quyển truyện và một chứng từ trị giá $10 để mua sách trong ngày hội bán sách của Scholastic. Tất cả những hoạt động yêu cầu cho đề tài dự thi phải hoàn tất vào ngày Thứ Sáu, 08/08/14. Buổi trình diễn phục trang về các nhân vật trong truyện sẽ được tổ chức vào ngày Thứ Ba, 19/08/14. Tree Day Cám ơn cô Trần đã sắp xếp tổ chức thành công cho ngày Trồng cây toàn quốc. Tất cả các lớp đã có cơ hội trồng cây của mình. The theme for this year is ‘Connect to Reading- Reading to Connect’. Each grade will participate in a Book Week competition. Class book prizes will be awarded. Grade winners will receive a book and a $10 voucher to spend at the Scholastic Book Fair. The competitions are as follows: Kindergarten will be studying “Granny, Grommet and Me” by Dianne Wolfer. In class, students will create an aquatic scene using a blue background with characters pasted on using the collage technique. Year One will be studying the story “King Pig”. The students can use wool, crumpled paper, felt, pipe cleaners etc to dress the king in a butterfly outfit. Year Two will be reading a text called “The Treasure Box” by Margaret Wild. Students are asked to decorate a small treasure box using coloured paper and craft items. The small box should be around the size of a teabag or chocolate box. Alternatively a cardboard template can be provided. Year Three will be studying “Meet Captain Cook” by Rae Murdie. Students will be provided with a template of Captain Cook which they are asked to colour, paint or collage at home. SJPPS Newsletter Year Four students will be studying "Jandamarra" which is an information book. The students will create a scene (bush, gorge, plain, boab trees, river, cave etc) from the story using paint, crayons, pencils and some collage. Students can use the image of Jandamarra on the cliff top to assist them. Stick onto cardboard to make it stronger. Year Five students will be studying "Rules of Summer". Students are asked to create a scene that represents what Summer means to them using paint, crayons, pencils, digital, collage or any other type of media. Think of sunshine, ice cream, thongs, swimming, beach umbrellas, summer fruit, exotic flowers, picnics, fishing etc. Year Six will be reading “Light Horse Boy” which is set in 1914. Students will use charcoal, lead pencils or black crayons to represent a page from the text depicting a light horse man and his horse. Attention should be paid to details such as the uniform and weapons provided to these soldiers in WWI. Term 3, Week 4 Page 4
