ALLAN LOVELACE President YEAR PASTORS CONFERENCE “Church Unleashed…By The Spirit” was birthed in my heart, as a phrase encompassing all the elements we see in concert in the early Church in the book of Acts. We find the Church dependent upon prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit first and foremost, (Acts 1:8). We recognize the Church is Spirit-filled and passionate about evangelism, missions, and church planting. Who can ignore the growth through multiplication by the miracle of salvation in the lives of thousands who responded to the Gospel of Jesus Christ? To witness these things today, we must return to the main thing! As pastors, we must lead His Church to pray desperately and to live Spirit-filled lives. Our Executive Director, Dr. Randy Davis, sounded the alarm in the early days of his leadership of our convention: “Our greatest need as a convention is personal and corporate revival that is birthed in a desperate hunger for God and God alone.” Davis goes on to say, “Indeed, we must give attention to vision, realignment and strategic planning. But the fuel and fire for all we do must come from a brokenness of our hearts so that we might know His heart. We are talking about a brutally honest repentance that leads to real holiness. Our pride, arrogance and selfishness must be crucified and radically replaced with genuine humility,” (May 26, 2011, Baptist and Reflector). Our Southern Baptist Convention under Dr. Fred Luter’s leadership these past two years has emphasized revival. This year’s convention theme was “Restoration and Revival through Prayer.” Have we correctly identified the need and solution but somehow lack the desperation? In this Pastors Conference, let’s humbly seek God’s face for the spark of the Holy Spirit that will unleash His Church across the state, as we are hungry for an awakening to impact the lostness here at home and around the world!
