LOCAL EDITION OF
THE ALABAMA BAPTIST
Wow, what a year it has been in the life of Dwight Baptist Church. The historians have so
much to record. As I look back over 2014, I see a year of highs and lows, ups and downs,
good times and bad times. I am almost positive there are a lot of things that we would wish
to forget, from the passing of some very dear church members that were like family, to the
fact that we had two staff members resign in one year leaving you guys stuck with me as
the only pastoral staff, Lord bless’ em!
It would be so easy for us to get discouraged and begin to question God’s plan, when the
way seems so rocky. However, God keeps reminding me of the Israelites, these folks had
a lot of ups and downs. They faced a lot of hard times and unfaithfulness, some of which
was caused by their own ignorance and selfishness. If you read through the book of Isaiah,
you will see there are 39 chapters that are basically words of judgment against them. Then
all of a sudden that changes in chapter 40. Isaiah begins to share words of comfort to the
Israelites, the promise of a redeemer that would come, words of hope.
God led me to this passage of scripture and I feel he wants us to start out the New Year
with these words in mind "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See,
now I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making
a way in the dessert and streams in the waste land." Isaiah 43:18-19. Wow!!! Did you
get that? Church, I believe wholeheartedly that God is preparing for us something new and
exciting. So as we go into the new year, keep this in mind. The same God that created the
heavens and earth, the same God the delivered the children out of Egypt and into the
promise land, YES O YES, that very same God is leading us into something new!!!
So let us stay prayed up and fired up while lifting God up in 2015!!! I love you all!!!
Rev. John Templeton
Generosity November was a huge success!! Praise God, and thanks to each one of you for
the generous giving. These financial gifts were to be above and beyond our regular tithing
so that we don’t fall behind again. If you look back at DBC’s history (as long as Anita and
I have been members), when the church or a family has a need, financial or otherwise, our
church family has always stepped up and made it happen! You guys are the most generous
and loving that anyone could ever ask for.
Continue to pray for John and all the staff; we are truly blessed to have them. Remember
Laney in your prayers as well. He did a great job while at DBC, and we’ll miss him. God
has given him musical talents, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.
Have you ever considered the idea or concept of totally giving your life over to someone
else? To completely surrender all? Well… as hard to do as that sounds, that’s exactly what
we are to do, if that someone is God. We are to yield all we have and all we do to Him. We
are to invite God into all areas of our life. Nowhere is to be off limits to Him. If we do this,
then the storms of life won’t knock us off course. And we all have these storms. It’s a part
of life in this fallen world. If we will surrender all, then we can enjoy the power, peace,
and joy that come only from God. If we’ll do this, then other people can see Jesus in us,
and what a testimony we can have. If we’ll do this then God can and will use you for His
glory. He can and will use DBC for His kingdom building.
Invite someone to attend church: Sunday school and worship services. Reach out to some
of our members that haven’t attended lately. Ask neighbors, people you see while out and
about, while standing in line, while getting your car serviced. Everywhere you turn, there’s
someone that needs to know God and have a church home. We had a very generous
November with our check books, now let’s do it with our invitations.

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
Galatians 2:20
Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature:
old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
