MAP is an important test because it gives faculty useful information on your child’s learning progress. It is especially important for 5th and 7th grade students, because CPS also uses MAP in the admissions process for academic centers, selective enrollment high schools, military schools, IB programs and other high school programs. How to read and understand your child’s score report. Attached is the NWEA Student Progress Report. The important score for selective program application is the percentile. A percentile tells you what percent of students across the country your child scored higher than (learn more here: http://www.teachersandfamilies.com/open/parent/scores2.cfm). Consult your child’s teacher, Ms. Massier, Mr. Laslo, or Mr. Zurawski for more information about MAP or if you wish to request a retest for selective enrollment application. For most students, the spring 2014 MAP score is a very good indicator of your child’s progress this year. If you see that the score does NOT reflect your child’s best effort and you would want to request a fall administration of the MAP for selective admissions purposes, you have that option. Students may be rested in reading, math, or both subjects. However, before moving on to this step, please carefully read the Frequently Asked Questions document about the CPS Fall Retest process on www.cpsoae.org. Bear in mind that if your child takes the Fall MAP, this score will replace the Spring MAP for selective enrollment decisions, even if the fall score is lower. Submitting a Fall MAP test registration. If after consulting with school staff you believe that it is in your child’s best interests to retest in the fall, you must complete a registration form, available at Coonley. A request to retest must be signed by a school administrator and received by the Office of Access and Enrollment by 5pm on September 5, 2014 through one of the following methods: mail or hand-delivered to the Office of Access and Enrollment (OAE), 125 S. Clark St., 10th floor, Chicago, IL 60603, or scan and email to [email protected]. If a retest request is mailed, you should enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope so that OAE can send a receipt. Please visit www.cpsoae.org to read a full FAQ on fall retesting. You can also reach the Office of Access and Enrollment at (773) 553-2060.
