President Stella presented a Presidential Paul Harris Award (awarded to
an individual who has made a substantial contribution to our

Guest Speaker
Hayley Bennett of the Canadian Mental Health Association
Hayley is part of the Early Psychosis Prevention Team at the CMHA.
She told us that 1 in 5 people will suffer from mental illness in their
lifetime. CMHA works with families affected by mental illness by setting
goals related to school, money and most importantly, keeping the
people well enough to stay out of the hospital.
Hayley talked about differences between mental illness brought on by
drug abuse compared to depression or anxiety. She informed us that in
general, young people do not seek help and more typically, they selfmedicate.
Upcoming Events
Kids Fishing Day
June 22nd
The CMHA will deal with addiction issues for people 12 years old and up
and all other medical issues at 14 years old and up. Hayley had a
bubbly personality…even though she appeared to be even more
anxious to get on with her day than the rest of us.
