Order a Camp T-Shirt
T-Shirts are $10. Sizes YXS-AXL. You can
see this year’s fox design on the front of
this flyer! The shirt will be cardinal red with
the design on this brochure. Shirts must be
ordered by May 15 to guarantee your camper
a shirt in the correct size. After that date,
shirts cannot be guaranteed. Order your shirt
when you sign up for a camp session.
How To Register
Camp sessions are reserved online with Visa,
MasterCard, or PayPal. Higher fees for nonmembers include a year’s PVAS membership.
If you wish to pay by check, please contact
[email protected]. Full fees are
due by May 15. Deposits are non-refundable
and non-transferable to another session.

Potomac Valley Audubon Society provides
scholarships for camp through our annual Fall
Birdseed Sale and donations. We welcome requests
for financial assistance although most scholarships
cover only part of the camp fee. More information
and applications can be found online at

Audubon Discovery Camp Programs
Camps at Yankauer Nature Preserve
Camps for Teens
(Berkeley County)
Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Camp Survivor
Are you the one who will be THE survivor? Learn the importance of
shelter, water, fire, food, and safety in the wild. Learn basic survival skills including building
shelter, solar cooking, checking the weather, and being safe in the woods. Learn knot-tying and
play challenge games in the great outdoors while you build your fort!
June 8–12 (Session 1) • Ages 6–12 • $150 members/$175 non-members
June 22–26 (Session 2) • Ages 6–12 • $150 members/$175 non-members
Bugs, Slugs & Other Ughs!
What’s under your feet? Bugs and slugs and worms and
roots and rocks and holes! Spend this week digging in the dirt, looking for what lies beneath
the soil, and investigating the wildlife living there. You can even try to make an ant get lost!
Your fort will be your “home in the woods” as you go exploring!
June 15–19 • Ages 6–12 • $150 members/$175 non-members
I’m Flying!

Outdoor Adventurer: Build A Techno Trail
Spend this week in and
around Shepherdstown, creating a techno-trail that highlights nature and history in
town. Using QR codes, letterboxing, and other technology, you’ll set up a trail that
others can follow.
June 22–26 • Ages 11–13 (entering grades 6–8)
$200 members/$225 non-members
Junior Staff
Attend training to learn about being a camp leader and a great
counselor, then work as an assistant staff member during one week at Yankauer or
the Peter Burr Farm. Junior staff spaces are limited for each week.
Training June 6 • Ages 12–17 (entering grades 7–12) • $30 per camper
Camps at the Peter Burr Farm (Jefferson County)
Lots of things fly! Some have feathers, some are mammals, some drive us crazy
(like stinkbugs), but they are all fascinating. Learn to identify a bird by its call, play Bat and
Moth to practice your echolocation and go on an evening adventure to listen for owls and look
for bats. On Thursday, camper families can join us for an evening campfire and a walk on
the Kingfisher Trail when it gets dark! (No camp on Friday July 3rd).

Ages 3–6 (Preschool and Entering Kindergarten/First Grade)

Out Of The Nest
Ages 3–5, with a parent attending Explore the natural world
with your child through circle time, short hikes, hands-on nature exploration, and stories.
Each day is a different nature theme!
June 1–5 • $50 per first camper/parent ($10 additional for 2nd child) • 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Nature Buddies
Ages 5–6 (entering Kindergarten or First Grade)
Just for campers who are ready to come to camp, but for a shorter day without a parent.
Explore insects, mammals, birds, and the forest through hands-on activities.
July 6–10 • $125 members/$150 non-members • 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Monarchs are the kings and queens, but there are
many, many different butterflies that visit us each year. Learn about butterflies
and their life cycle, play butterfly games, work on butterfly craft projects,
look for caterpillars, use the net to collect butterflies, and help raise some
butterflies at camp.
July 6–10 • Ages 6–12 • $150 members/$175 non-members
What was life like 200 years ago?! Make a cornhusk
doll, investigate the animals that provided food, make your own bread, butter,
and yogurt cheese, weave on a lap loom, make berry ink and write with a quill.
After that, play pioneer games, make your own dice, and maybe even make a
bone whistle.
July 13–17 • Ages 6–12 • $150 members/$175 non-members
Teen Photo Camp at Shepherd University
Learn the basics of digital photography, even if you’ve never held a camera! Learn
how to take the BEST pictures then download the images to a computer and edit
them. Much of each day is spent outside taking pictures! A Nikon 35mm digital
SLR camera is provided for your use during the week.
June 22-26 • Ages 14-17 (entering grades 9-12) • 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
