MISSION STATEMENT
Guided by the Spirit of God, the Roman Catholic
parish family of Sacred Heart of Jesus celebrates a
living faith in Jesus Christ. As a people of God we
are committed to worship in the Eucharist, to prayer and to an awareness of the needs of local and
global communities as the Gospel message instructs
us. We direct our efforts to promote excellence in
the Catholic tradition of education at all levels. We
are diligent and responsible in maintaining sound
financial and physical resources to meet current
and future obligations. We strive to see the face of
Jesus Christ in every person and to utilize the diversity of gifts present in our parish through collaborative ministries and apostolates.

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL
The Catholic Home
Missions Appeal supports
dioceses in the United States and its territories that
lack the resources to provide basic pastoral ministry
to their populations. Through annual grants, Catholic
Home Missions funds catechesis, seminarian
education, lay ministry training, Hispanic ministry, and
other pastoral programs in needy dioceses. As a
result of the generosity of parishioners like you, this
appeal impacts the lives of nearly 9 million Catholics.
The dioceses funded by the appeal comprise nearly
45% of all U.S. dioceses. With your support, the
Catholic Home Missions Appeal can continue to
provide essential pastoral outreach in home mission
dioceses. Please be generous in this appeal which
will be taken up at all Masses next weekend,
January 31st and February 1st to help strengthen
the Church at home.
FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
SOUPER BOWL FOR CARING
On the weekend of January 31st and February 1st
140 million Americans will tune in to the Super Bowl
Football game. There will be parties with abundant
food, friendship and fellowship. At the same time,
there will be people worrying about staying warm,
finding shelter and a warm meal. At all Masses
during the Super Bowl weekend, members of the
Confirmation Class will hold soup pots at parish
doors to collect money for those in our area that are
hungry and hurting. Please join them as they
demonstrate God’s love by loving their neighbors
through the Souper Bowl of Caring. All funds
collected will be donated to the Daily Bread Food
Pantry.
SCOUT SUNDAY
All Scouts are invited to participate in
Scout Sunday on February 8th at the
10:00 a.m. Mass and are invited to join
in the procession in uniform. Scouts and
their leaders will gather in the Chapel of
the Holy Spouses, Mary and Joseph
(lower church) at 9:30 a.m. Leaders are
encouraged to attend with their scouts, but any scout
is welcome to attend on his own. Contact Amy
Donahue at (508) 473-1718 with any questions.
DAILY BREAD FOOD PANTRY
Our Daily Bread Food Pantry collection items for the
month of February are Ramen Noodles, Instant
Oatmeal and Bakes Beans. If you wish to donate
please bring the items to Mass and place them in the
baskets provided at the entrances. We wish to thank
all the members of our parish family who support the
Daily Bread Food Pantry through their volunteer activity, financial donations and prayers.

FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTIONS
Friday, February 6th, is the First Friday of the Month
and so we continue our monthly devotion to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus. The following is the twelfth
promise that Jesus made to Saint Margaret Mary
when He asked her to begin the devotion to His
Sacred Heart : #12. “In the excess of the mercy of
My Heart, I promise you that My all powerful love
will grant to all those who will receive
Communion on the First Friday for nine
consecutive months, the grace of final
repentance: they will not die in My displeasure,
nor without receiving the sacraments; and my
Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.”
Our day begins with Mass at 7:00 AM in the Chapel
of the Holy Spouses, Mary and Joseph, followed by
Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
until 12 Noon. The Rosary is prayed each hour on
the half hour beginning at 7:30 AM. Benediction of
the Blessed Sacrament will take place at 12 Noon.
Please join us anytime during these hours of
prayer.

A PRAYER FOR WORLD PEACE
Almighty God, Creator of all things, we place our
request for world peace into your hands. Continue to
be our refuge and our strength as we undertake this
challenge. We pray for people of all nations. Fill their
hearts with the desire to ensure justice and equality
for all. We ask that You watch over those exposed to
the horrors of war. Let your compassion shine on all
who dwell in these war-torn areas. Guide our daily
path to the way of peace. Let us all, in some way, be
an instrument of Your peace. Heavenly Father, let
peace reign throughout the world. Bless with Your
divine protection our servicemen and women. Let
their faith and trust in You never weaken. Bring them
safely home to their loved ones. Let Your heavenly
wisdom direct our world leaders to seek peace.
Through their actions, may harmony and justice be
secured. Amen.
The Brown Bag Dinner
Food and Fellowship Ministry:
For almost 3 years, the Evangelization committee has
been providing a free nutritious meal for the hungry in
our community on the last Saturday of every month.
Our guests range in age from infants to the elderly
including single men and women, couples as well as
families small and large. Some folks come every
month while others may only come one time. What is
consistent are fellowship and a warm welcome. There
are several ways you too can be involved with this
ministry: 1) Donations are always welcome. There
are lunch boxes at the entrances of the church for
monetary donations or you can put an envelope
marked “for the Brown Bag Dinner” in the collection
basket; 2) We can accept the following non-perishable
items for donation: cases of bottled water; flavored
packets for water; individual serving sizes of instant
coffee, tea and hot chocolate; individual serving sizes
of chips/snacks/cookies/granola bars/fruit cups; quart,
and sandwich size re-sealable plastic bags; large size
brown lunch bags; 3) Volunteer your time to help
prepare and serve. If you have any questions, would
like to donate non-perishable items or would like to
volunteer your time, please contact either Brian and
Lisa Blackwell at [email protected] or
Donnalee Shain at [email protected] or .508-4783536.
