POP CHOIR AT THE O2 ARENA
On Monday, 27th January, the award winning Gifford Primary School Pop Choir performed
for the second year running at the Young Voices concert at the O2 Arena in London. Along
with nearly 7,500 other children from around 150 schools, the choir sang and danced their
hearts out to 17 songs that they had been rehearsing for months and performed with the
amazing X Factor star, Stacey Soloman, as well as other celebrated international artists.
The children had an incredible time and enthused that they had the best time of their
lives! When the doors finally opened to the public at 6pm after rehearsing all afternoon,
there was much excitement, waving, cheering and hunting for family and friends in the
audience! A lifelong dream of Sara Sullivan (Gifford’s Choir Director) has been to
perform at the O2 and this came to fruition. On the day she and Nimah Murphy (Dance
Co-Ordinator) sang on stage with several other music teachers as part of the Young
Voices Teachers Choir! A fabulous day all round for all that attended and we cannot wait
for next year’s concert! Watch out for us in the Ealing Gazette today.

ATHLETICS
On Wednesday 22nd January our A and B athletics teams
took part in the indoor athletics’ competition held at
Greenford High School. Against stiff competition from
ten other schools the A team finished in first place in a
very exciting last race to win gold medals. The B team
performed really well and just
missed winning bronze medals by
finishing in 4th place. Well done
to everybody for such a fantastic
effort.
AND ANOTHER GREAT WIN!
On Tuesday 4th February the team competed against two other
Ealing schools; St Vincent’s School and Little Ealing Primary
School. In a very tense competition with lots of parents and
staff willing them on, the Gifford team was pronounced
‘winner.’ The team was presented with a shield and will now go
on to represent Ealing in the London Youth Games on March
3rd.This is the first time Gifford has represented the Borough in
any sport! A special thank you to the coaches; Mr Ratcliffe and
Mr Bennett and also to all the marvellous supporters.

BOOK REVIEWS
Gifford pupils recommend………...
Ulf the Finger Eater.
By Dick King-Smith. Recommended by Natalie Donkor
I would recommend you to read ‘Ulf the Finger Eater’. I enjoyed reading this fascinating book and I hope you will too. In
part of the story Ulf ate the children’s fingers, but the brave little
children didn’t care – they just moved on with life and that’s
what I really liked about the book. Also, my other favourite bit
about the book is the moral because the book is about not
keeping a bad habit so that’s why I think you should read or buy
this inspiring book. Your children or friends will love this funny
book. A funny bit of the book is when Gudrun the woodcutter’s
daughter found Ulf and her dad told her about his habit, so she
wore some gloves so that Ulf wouldn’t eat her real fingers, so
Gudrun put her hands out and said, “Ulf, would you like to shake
my hand?” and Ulf said, “OK then.” Before Gudrun could even
get to Ulf’s hands, he bit her hand, then all of his teeth fell out
and then Ulf couldn’t bite anyone’s fingers ever again .
Horrid Henry’s Birthday Party
by Francesca Simon.
Recommended by Ubayd Uddin
I like this book because I like Horrid Henry and I like birthday
parties. If you’re a boy you will like this book because it has
lots of boy stuff. Henry definitely doesn’t eat a balanced diet
and my favourite part is when they make chaos in the house.
You should read this book because it has lots of fantastic
pictures and it has a list of birthday presents for boys to make
chaos and have fun, like a 60-gear bike, a whoopee cushion and
a water gun. I would recommend this book to the Juniors
because if the Infants read it, it will be slowly read. It has lots of
difficult words in this fantastic book. The person who wrote this
is a remarkable writer and the person who drew the pictures is an
amazing illustrator.
