Miss Spider’s Tea Party
Scene 1
Lights are off; spider enters on stage and sits by her web. Lights turn on.
Narrator: One lonely spider sipped her tea while gazing at the sky. She watched the
insects on the leaves and many flying by.
Two timid beetles Ike and May pass by Miss Spider. She notices them in the corner of
the room.
Miss Spider: Hi Ike and May! Would you two like to join me with some tea and cake?
Ike: Oh, no!
May: Never!
Miss Spider: But why? What did I do?
Ike: Um… it’s just that you aren’t a beetle.
May: Yeah, the beetles are only aloud to be with other beetles.
Ike: whispering. Ok, May don’t overdo it.
Miss Spider: What are you whispering about?
Ike and May: Um, nothing. We really must be going.
They leave the stage; Miss Spider returns to the table and sips her tea.
Narrator: Miss Spider was very sad! She knew that Ike and May were lying to her and
couldn’t understand why they didn’t want to be with her.
Scene 2
Two fireflies enter.
Miss Spider: I love fire flies! How are you?
Firefly #1: whispering. She loves fire flies? gulp.
Firefly #2: whispering. I have a weird feeling about this, look she has the table all set
for her feast. She is going to eat us!
Firefly #1: Your right we must get out of here as quickly as possible!
Firefly #2: Yeah, I agree.
2
They try to escape.
Miss Spider: coming closer. Where are you going? Why don’t you join me?
Firefly #1: Um, I don’t think so… maybe another time?
Firefly #2: Yeah, we really must be going.
They dash away.
Miss Spider: No! Don’t leave! Please Stay!
Narrator: poor Miss Spider. It was too late now, they were long gone. The little duo
did not feel they’d care to be a spider’s meal.
Miss Spider sits down and eats some of her cake and tea.
Scene 3
Buzzing is heard outside.
Bee #1: Buzz, Buzzy, who do you think livez here?
Buzzy: Beatz me! Let’z find out!
They two bees enter Miss Spiders’ house. The table is set with cake and tea. Miss
Spider quickly approaches them.
Miss Spider: anxiously. Please stay for some tea and cake!
Βee #1: Oh no! Buzzy, quickly let’z get out of here it’z a huge spider!
Miss Spider: Nobody likes me, but why? I would never hurt anyone!
Buzzy: We would be foolz to beelieve that!
Miss Spider: But why would I hurt you? I’m just a spider!
Bee #1: Exzactly!
The bees leave Miss Spiders house buzzing away.
Miss Spider: crying. I will never have friends! Nobody likes me!
Scene 4
From the corner of the room, Miss Spider spots something moving. Excitedly she gets
up from her chair and runs to the corner of the room.
Miss Spider: Who is there?
3
Narrator: Her heart was cheered. Descending for a closer look, she danced into the
gloomy nook, but sadly found jolly mugs belonged, alas to rubber bugs.
Miss Spider becomes disappointed.
Miss Spider: My imagination is beginning to run wild. I mistook a rubber bug to be an
actual bug!
Scene 5
Miss Spider: in despair. No one wants to drink tea with me, I will always be alone.
Miss Spider, very upset sits down and drinks some tea. She suddenly hears something
coming from the corner of the room.
Narrator: turning her head, she looks by her bed, and spots an ant.
She instantly runs over to the floor to help the ant.
Miss Spider: What happened to you poor old sole, how did you hurt yourself?
Ant: trembling. I was peeking at the cakes in your dining room while running and I
ran into your wall.
Miss Spider: Let me help you up my poor dear. You have such a big lump on your
head.
Ant: anxiously. Please don't make me part of your meal!
She helped the ant up smiling gently at him and took him to a comfortable chair.
Miss Spider: don't worry my dear. You have nothing to fear.
She brought the ant some tea and gave him some cake. Then she helped the ant get
out and showed him the way.
Miss Spider: I will show you to the rest of the ants.
Ant: Rest of the ants?
Miss Spider: Yes.
Narrator: The ant thought that he was going to be taken somewhere when she traps
the ants so that she can later eat them. Quickly he tugged away from Miss Spider
and ran out the door.
Miss Spider: no wait please don’t leave! I only wanted to take you outside and back
where you belong.
4
Narrator: but the ant was too far away to hear her.
She is left alone again and upset.
Scene 6
Miss Spider is sitting at her chair; miserable.
Narrator: from the window, fly in some butterflies.
They flutter close to Miss Spider, but she chooses to ignore them.
Butterfly #1: Look at this strange place?
Butterfly #2: Yes, this web means that there is a spider nearby.
Butterfly #1: yeah, I heard that they use their webs to trap butterflies. Then they
wait until the butterfly has been cooked nicely under the sun. That’s why their webs
are always in sunny areas.
Butterfly #2: really? If that’s the case then we must get out of here like now!
They try to escape, but notice Miss Spider in the corner of the room on a chair sipping
tea.
Butterfly #1: Ah! Look she is in the corner over there!
Butterfly #2: Does she see us?
Butterfly #1: I don’t know, maybe it’s a trap so that she can catch us in her web.
Butterfly #2: Yeah, we’d better leave now otherwise she will definitely catch us!
Miss Spider moves.
Butterflies: scared. Quick she is coming to get us, we have to go now!
They exit the stage. Miss Spider looks curious.
Miss Spider: Did I hear something? Must have been my imagination. Yeah, it must
have been.
Scene 7
Narrator: the table was set for eight with saucers, cups and silver plate.
Miss Spider is seen fixing the table. A knock on the door is heard and giggling. Miss
Spider goes to answer door. She opens it and no one is there. She comes back into her
house and sits on her chair and begins sobbing.
5
Scene 8
The lights turn dim and we hear thunder and see lightening.
Narrator: several spotted moths kept safe and warm in shelter from a thunderstorm.
Miss Spider opens door to let them in, since she was sobbing she looks terrible. Her
eyes are red and her tears are trickling down her face; her ‘hair’ is messy.
Miss Spider: please come in and get warm. I have some cakes and tea if you are
hungry?
Moths look at her and become frightened.
Moth #1: trembling from fear. No we really can’t stay. We will return home when
the storm stops. No need to trouble you.
Miss Spider: Oh, it’s no trouble at all, I would be glad to have you in my home. And
besides the storm is too strong, your wings will become wet and you will not be able
to fly home.
Moth #2: we really can’t stay, we must go!
Miss Spider: just wait while I go and get you a towel for you to dry your wings.
Moth #1: ok…
Moth #2: quick, now is our chance to run away.
Moth #1: I think she went inside to fetch her knife or something.
Moth #2: No time to think just run.
Moth #1: ok but why should we run when we have wings?
Moth #2: oh yeah…
Moth #1: Maybe it’s good to think sometimes.
They begin to fly.
Moth #2: quickly. But what about the rain?
Crashing is heard.
Miss Spider walks to the door with a towel. She sees that the moths are gone and
begins sobbing again.
6
Scene 9
Suddenly from the corner of the room she hears sobbing. Curiously she walks over to
the other side of the room and discovers a wet moth.
Miss Spider: Are you ok?
Moth: in despair. No, my friends flew away and left me, my wings are too wet to fly
away and I am afraid that you will hurt me.
Miss Spider: I have never hurt a soul in my life. Please let me help you.
She helps the moth get up.
Moth: Thank you!
Miss Spider: Now first things first, you must get your wings dry. Here’s a towel. Now
dry off.
Moth: OK.
Miss Spider: I will warm some tea for you, so that you don’t catch a cold.
Moth: OK.
Miss Spider goes to warm some tea while the moth dries off. She returns to him with
a plate of tea and cakes.
Moth: Thank you so much for your hospitality. I would have never expected a spider
to be this nice!
Miss Spider: Insects always appear differently from the outside, but on the inside
they have the heart of an angel.
Moth: You’re right. Oh, look the rain stopped! I must be going now otherwise my
family will worry. Thank you again. I hope to see you soon!
Miss Spider: You too! You made my day! Goodbye!
Scene 10
Moth is talking to Ike about how well Miss Spider treated him in her home.
Moth: Hey Ike!
Ike: Hey!
Moth: I just came back from Miss Spider’s house.
7
Ike: I am so sorry for you, how did you escape?
Moth: escape?
Ike: yeah from being tortured.
Moth: No… You have it all wrong, Miss Spider is really nice and all she did was dry
my wings and serve me some tea.
Ike: I don’t believe you!
Moth: No, really Ike, tell May that Miss Spider is really nice and sweet, and all she
really wanted was to have a tea party with all of the insects.
Ike runs to find May.
Ike: May, I just talked to the moth and he had a really nice afternoon with Miss
Spider-she dried his wings and gave him tea and took care of him. I think we really
misjudged her. Let’s go and tell everyone that Miss Spider isn’t evil and just sad and
lonely. We should also go to her tea party.
A bunch of insects appear on stage from different directions. They meet in the center
of the stage and talk excitedly. They are all spreading Ike’s message. Then all the
bugs walk in line to Miss Spider’s house. The first bug knock’s on the door.
Narrator: Miss Spider thinks that it is just another prank and ignores the knock.
Again the bug knocks. Finally, Miss Spider arises from her chair.
Miss Spider: Coming, coming!
She opens the door.
Miss Spider: Well, hello, I wasn’t expecting you. Can I help you?
The insects look at one another, and finally the first one speaks.
Ike: well, the truth is that we are all very sorry for not believing you when you first
wanted us to join you for tea and cakes-we were afraid that you would eat us! We
would very much like to start over and join you at your tea party.
Miss Spider: oh, joy! Do come in, I won’t bite!
All the insects freeze and start to look at each other, terrified. Ominous music plays,
as Miss Spider smiles mischievously and the insects become more and more tens and
scared.
Miss Spider: Ha, ha! I’m just joking , of course I won’t bother anyone!
8
They insects laugh, both relieved and nervous, and walk cautiously into the living
room. One of the insects presents her with a bouquet of flowers, and another one
hands her a vase to put them in. they start to drink tea and eat cakes and laugh and
talk. After a while, the insects begin to leave.
All together: Goodbye, Miss Spider! Thank you for the lovely party!
Night falls and the stage turns dark. Then we hear music that reminds us of the
morning, and the stage gradually grows lighter, as the sun rises. Miss Spider steps
outside her house and is greeted by an insect.
Insect: Good morning, Miss Spider! What a lovely day! So nice to see you!
Narrator: So you see there was really nothing for the insects to be afraid of. Inside
Miss Spider was a kind, gentle and loving creature that respected everyone. And you
must always remember to not judge a book by it’s cover!
