　学びの扉（英米文学英語学専修）コーディネーター：谷口　義朗先生連絡先：eibun＠cm.kansai-u.ac.jp 2015年春学期　A603教室 Week 1 Date エリア担当 4月8日英米文学 2 タイトルアメリカ南部の文学 4月15日概要第1回目の授業の最初に各担当者と授業概要の説明をします。そして最後の30分程度を使って TOEIC を運営している国際ビジネスコミュニケーション協会の担当の方から TOEIC についての説明をしていただきます。余った時間と2回目の授業で、タイトルのテーマにそってお話しします。アメリカ南部を代表する作家の一人である William Faulkner(1897-1962) の短篇を一篇紹介する予定ですが、まずその前に導入としてアメリカ文学というものの特質、そのなかにおけるアメリカ南部の文学の位置といったことについてお話し、それから作品のあらすじの紹介、作品解説の順に進めていきます。谷口 3 4月22日英語学 English as a Global Language These days it is often said that English is an international language, or—more precisely—a global language, because it is learned in nearly every country of the world as a first or second language. But what does this really mean? Ironically, as English becomes more and more globalized, people around the world increasingly use it to express their own cultural values. This causes “new” varieties of English to develop in different countries, and it also gives rise to communication problems when people use English to interact with those from other cultures. In this session, we will explore these issues related to the globalization of English. 英文法から英語学へ英語の文法を、単に暗記するのでなく、どうしてそうなるのか、にこだわって考えるのが英語学です。こだわって考えたらどのようなことが見えてくるかを示してみたいと思います。 5/13の後半には、国際部池田佳子先生から、国際部の活動と留学に関してお話しをいただきます。英詩を味わう英詩を鑑賞するうえで大切なのは、自分で音読して、詩の言葉の意味だけではなく音の響きを味わうことです。英詩鑑賞の基本を一緒に学びましょう。今回学んだ英詩鑑賞の基礎知識を活かして、自分で実際に詩を鑑賞してみましょう。 Variations of English Students around the world study English, but little attention is given to the fact that there are many varieties of English and many variations in the way the language is used in different contexts. To help students become more aware of different kinds of English, this lecture will focus on sociolinguistic variation, including national and regional varieties of English. アンダーソン 4 4月30日英語学 5 5月13日岩田 6 5月20日英米文学 7 5月27日高橋 8 6月3日英語学 9 6月10日 Pragmatics 野口 10 11 解釈の多様性文学と心理学との関係について基礎的な事項を学びます。初回は、文学作品における夢の重要性をユング心理学の観点から考察します。 2回目は、『ゲド戦記』の一部を一緒に観た後、ユング心理学を用いて映画を新たな視点で分析してみましょう。いずれの回も最後にショートコメントを書いてもらう予定にしています。必ず出席すること。 Exploring a Classic American Short Story ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ is a story by James Thurber, published in the New Yorker magazine in 1939. Though it is very short, the story has had a big impact on many people, because it shows a man who tries to escape from his boring everyday life into a fantasy world. Probably most of us have wanted to do the same at some point in our lives! In these two classes, we will explore the fantasy and everyday worlds of Walter Mitty, analysing how Thurber has created such a compelling character and story. The story is so popular that it has inspired two films, one in 1947, starring Danny Kaye, and the other in 2013, starring Ben Stiller. In the second class, we will compare the films with the original story. フィクション映画の分析・解釈フィクション映画の映像分析をおこないます。授業の大枠は、文学研究から派生した方法論でアメリカ映画にアプローチすることです。映画というのは私たちに身近なものですが、私たちは映画を鑑賞しながら、本当に映画というものが見えているでしょうか。スクリーンにじっと目を凝らしながら、「見ているのに見ていない」ということが実は多くあります。映画の「語り方」を技法的に考え、「映画を見るということ」そのものを意識化しながら、映画というテキストを分析的に読み解いていきましょう。みなさんに随時コメントを記述してもらいつつ、「映画の読み方」の講義を展開します。 6月17日英米文学 In Kyoto,「お茶漬けでもどうぞ」is not really an invitation to have a snack. It is a way to say something without being direct. Can we do the same kind of thing in English? Also, how does our language change according to the type of person we are talking to—teachers, friends, or strangers? Japanese has many levels of politeness (待遇表現), but what about English?
