SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
CHRISTIAN FORMATION
WORSHIP
ENCOUNTER THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL
Year Two: Focus on the Domestic Church –Marriage & Family
6th Sunday of Easter
"It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to
go and bear fruit that will remain." We sometimes tend to believe the opposite. It's not unusual for us to think, "I have chosen to be a Christian,"
and then to imagine that the process really started with us, that it was our
initiative, our decision to believe, our act of faith that got the ball rolling in
our spiritual life. Of course our decision is important, but Jesus reminds us
today that he is actually the one who took the first step. He chose us. He
called and invited us to be among his followers and friends. As the second
reading tells us, "God sent his only Son into the world so that we might
have life through him." That happened first. The next step is ours, to accept this life that is offered to us through our own act of faith.
The other part of this equation is that, as Jesus tells us, we have been chosen for a mission. This isn't all just about our personal faith and our relationship with him. He calls us to know and love him, and when we respond, we are "appointed" to be fruitful in the world. We are supposed to
live our faith in such a way that something valuable, beautiful, and useful
comes from it. Jesus sends us to make the world a better place, not in a
vague, feel-good, fluffy way but in a real, concrete way. He equips us to
bear fruit that will remain. This isn't superficial or flighty. The work we do
in the world--whether it be alleviating the suffering of the sick and poor,
evangelizing those who do not know about the gift of salvation, raising our
children to be faithful Christians, or carrying out our career with integrity
and generosity--all of this is meant to be the effect of our response to the
call that Jesus gave us.

Deacon Corner: (By Deacon Al)
One of the gifts we have as a part of our faith are the appearances of the
Blessed Mother. On the grounds near Champion, Wisconsin over 150 years
ago, the Holy Mother appeared to the young Adele Brise and instructed her
to teach the children in the faith. This is where Sister Adele began her work
and inspired the efforts of generations of faithful Christians. The Lady was
elevated slightly in a bright light and gave words of solace and comfort and
a bold and challenging mission for the young immigrant woman. The Lady
gave her a two-fold mission of prayer for the conversion of sinners and catechesis. “I am the Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners,
and I wish you to do the same. You received Holy Communion this morning
and that is well. But you must do more. Make a general confession and offer
Communion for the conversion of sinners... Gather the children in this wild
country and teach them what they should know for salvation... Teach them
their catechism, how to sign themselves with the sign of the Cross, and how
to approach the sacraments; that is what I wish you to do. Go and fear nothing, I will help you.” Adele Brise began immediately to fulfill the mandate
and mission entrusted to her by the Lady and oftentimes at great personal
sacrifice went to the homes of the children to instruct them in the largely
unsettled and forested area in Wisconsin. Adele was ever obedient to the
authorities of the Church and steadfast in the mission entrusted to her by
Our Lady, no matter what difficulty she encountered. The mission given her
became such a commitment that she set up a Catholic school of instruction
for children and even began a community of Third Order Franciscan women,
who assisted her in her obedience to the mandate of Our Lady to pray for the
conversion of sinners and to instruct the children.
Worship Corner
Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that
anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy
intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my
petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

prayer is for the World Meeting of Families Philadelphia 2015:
God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have
made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be
united in one another in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit,
guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen Jesus, Mary and Joseph Pray for us!
Parents: Year 2 of the Diocesan Evangelization Pastoral Plan is Focusing on the Domestic Church. This means that it is in the context of the
family that we first learn who God is and how to prayerfully seek His
will for us.” Teach your children prayers at a early age. They can learn
them as young as 3-4 years old. Talk to them about your faith and share
how God has touched your life. Show them how to be caring to our
neighbors by bringing none perishable items for the Out Reach Center
and signing up to different events and needs here at the church. (Men’s
Shelter, Parish Picnic, Church Festival, VBS volunteer, Catechist for
Religious Education or Children’s Liturgy, read the Word in church, be a
Eucharistic Minister, etc…) Your example is what they will follow.

YOUTH
During our last EDGE/LIFETEEN session we talked about the Catholic
Church’s relationship with other Christian communities and other religions. We particularly noted why we cannot just say that they are all the
same and let it be; Christ’s prayer was for unity. Knowing that, we talked
about how we can humbly engage in ecumenism and interreligious dialogue while standing firm in our belief that the Catholic Church has the
fullness of the means of salvation. Our LAST EDGE/LIFETEEN session will be held Monday, May 18th, from 6:30-8:30pm. Fr. Mike be
joining us for a Walk Through Mass.

REFLEXIONES
