D
espués de analizar más de 150
compañías de todo el mundo,
la organización medioambiental alemana Atmosfair llegó a
la conclusión de que Air Europa
era la aerolínea más eﬁciente
del mundo en vuelos de corta y media
distancia. Sucedió hace un par de años y
aquella distinción venía a poner, negro
sobre blanco, el resultado de aplicar dos
de las vocaciones más queridas en esta
casa: disponer de la última tecnología y
aprovechar racionalmente los recursos.
Hoy seguimos manteniendo el mismo
compromiso, y lo reaﬁrmamos cada día
con hechos concretos.
El pasado mes de abril inauguramos en
nuestra sede de Llucmajor (Mallorca) un
nuevo Centro de Control de Operaciones
equipado con los sistemas más punteros
que existen en la actualidad. Un centro
que nos permite conocer en tiempo real
la situación e incidencias de cada uno de
los 46 aviones que integran la ﬂota de
nuestra compañía. Y de esa forma lograr
la mayor puntualidad y eﬁciencia.
También el mes pasado comenzamos a
operar el primer Boeing 787 Dreamliner
en la ruta Madrid-Miami. Se trata de una
aeronave sin parangón en el mercado
en términos de confort para el pasajero.
Pero también es la más eﬁciente, ya que
su consumo de combustible es un 20 por
ciento inferior a las actuales y ahorra casi
40 minutos en cada trayecto.
Son dos hitos que nos colocan, de nuevo,
en la vanguardia de la aviación comercial. / After analysing 150 companies

Llucmajor (Majorca) headquarters, a
new Operations Control Centre equipped

each of the 46 aircraft in the company’s
ﬂeet to be known in real time. And therefore achieve the greatest punctuality and
eﬃciency.
Also last month the company began to
operate the ﬁrst Boeing 787 Dreamliner
on the Madrid-Miami route. This aircraft
is without comparison in terms of passenger comfort. It is the most eﬃcient,
with fuel consumption 20% lower than
current aircraft and saving almost 40
minutes on each ﬂight.
These are two milestones passed, once
again, at the forefront of commercial

E
l momento cumbre
es, este año, la noche
del 25 al 26 de mayo,
lunes de Pentecostés. La
tradición dice que debe
ser al clarear el día, pero
los nervios de los almonteños
hacen que, aún con la noche
cerrada –a eso de las tres de la
madrugada–, salten la verja de
la Ermita de la Virgen del Rocío,
invadan el presbiterio, agarren la
imagen de la Blanca Paloma y la
procesionen durante horas por
toda la aldea, de mano en mano,
de hermandad en hermandad.
Ese es el folclórico happy
ending de una de las mayores
peregrinaciones católicas del
mundo: la romería del Rocío.
Una marcha que se inicia días
antes desde las sedes de las casi
120 hermandades que hay por
el mundo. Carretas, caballos y
romeros parten desde sus lugares
de origen con un rumbo ﬁjo:
la aldea onubense de El Rocío.
Pero antes, cada hermandad
debe atravesar con su simpecado
Doñana y el Guadalquivir, lo
que convierte el Parque Nacional
en un hormiguero de polvo,

sudor y sevillanas. / This year’s

En mayo, un mes antes de lo acustumbrado, Venecia
se convierte en la capital artística del mundo. Bajo el
título Todos los futuros del mundo –All the World’s
Futures–, desde el día 9 –y hasta el 22 de noviembre–,
136 artistas de 53 países presentan sus propuestas en
la 56ª edición de la Bienal de Venecia. El parque del
Giardini, donde se encuentran los pabellones históricos nacionales de los países participantes, y el Arsenal,
reservado a artistas jóvenes, son, una edición más, las
sedes tradicionales de exposición. Pero, además, habrá otros espacios repartidos por toda la ciudad que
albergarán un total de 44 eventos complementarios a
la Exposición. En el Pabellón Español, Salvador Dalí
(del que el 11 de mayo se cumplen 111 años de su nacimiento) estará presente, aunque sin obra, a través de
las relecturas que los artistas Cabello/Carceler, Francesc Ruiz y Pepo Salazar han realizado sobre el genio de

Alejandro Sanz (Madrid, 1968) ha volcado sus
energías del último año en su nuevo disco, Sirope, el décimo de su discografía, que sale a la
venta el 4 de mayo. Un título que parece hecho a
la medida del momento dulce que está viviendo: dentro de poco cumplirá 25 años de carrera –ha vendido más de 25 millones de discos
en todo el mundo y ha conseguido 16 premios
Grammy, entre latinos y anglos– y en julio de
2014 volvió a ser padre, esta vez de una niña,
de nombre Alma, con Raquel Perera, su mujer
desde 2012. Hablamos con él –de todo– en un
hotel de Madrid.
Suele asociar discos a etapas de su vida. ¿En
qué etapa vital se encuentra con este?
Debe de ser positiva, porque todos los temas
de los que hablo en el disco los trato desde un
punto de vista muy positivo. Incluído el sencillo, Un zombie a la intemperie. Por cierto, que

months. Plus 4 months of recording.» Alejandro Sanz (Madrid, 1968) has put all his energy this past year into his new album Sirope
(Syrup), the tenth of his career which is due to
go on sale on May 4. It is a title that seems ﬁtting for this sweet period in his life: he’ll soon
celebrate 25 years in the business, has sold 25
million albums worldwide and has picked up
16 Grammys, between Latin and Anglo awards.
In July 2014 he became a father again, with the
birth of his daughter Alma, to Raquel Perera,
his wife since 2012. We caught up with him at
a Madrid hotel.
You usually associate albums with different
stages in your life. Where do you ﬁnd yourself
with this one?
Well it would have to be a positive one, because
all the themes I deal with on the album, I deal
with from a very positive perspective. Even the
single Un zombie a la intemperie. For real, a lot
of people thought I was going to dress up as a
zombie, but it had nothing to do with that: it’s
the story of a guy who leaves and, in the end,
realizes that the best place to be is home.
In the song Capitán Tapón, is it the voice of
your three year old son Dylan that we hear?
Yes. I’m a bit torn on this song. I don’t know how
Capitán Tapón will sit when he’s 14. I know that
when he’s 30 he’ll appreciate it but when you’re a
teenager you see things diﬀerently. So I thought
that the only defense against him attacking me
when he’s 14 was to include him on the song and
make him an accomplice [laughs].

mucha gente creía que me iba a disfrazar de
zombie, pero no tiene nada que ver con ello: es
el alegato de un tipo que se marcha y, al ﬁnal,
reconoce que donde mejor está es en su casa.
En el tema Capitán Tapón, ¿es la voz de su hijo
de tres años, Dylan, la que se escucha?
Sí. Tengo una dicotomía con esa canción: no
sé cómo le va a sentar Capitán Tapón cuando
tenga 14 años. Sé que con 30 la va a agradecer,
pero cuando eres adolescente las cosas se ven
de otra manera. Así que pensé que la única forma de que no me agreda cuando tenga 14 años
era incluirle en la canción y hacerle cómplice
de ella [risas].
Su hija pequeña, Alma, nació el año pasado.
¿Cómo lleva lo de estar rodeado de niños tan
pequeños con 46 años?
A mí me encanta. Siempre he dicho que quería
tener muchos hijos, y no sé si me voy a plantar
en cuatro o tendré más. Me gustan mucho los
niños, creo que le dan a la casa una vida increíble. Además, es asombroso lo que descubre uno
con niños de 0 a 6 años. Mi hijo Dylan, con tres
años, habla cinco idiomas. Acude a un sistema
educativo que Raquel [su mujer] encontró.
Volvamos al disco. La canción No madura el
coco, ¿está relacionada con Venezuela?
Está claramente relacionada con Venezuela, pero no es tan claro que hable de política.
Después de escribirlo, ese tema, una noche,
empezó a hablarme –yo creo que las canciones
tienen vida propia–, y me di cuenta de lo que la
letra estaba diciendo: tiene que ver con la propia tierra quejándose del abuso por parte de la
gente, del mal uso que el ser humano hace del
conocimiento, las ambiciones, las envidias…
En 2007, Hugo Chávez le prohibió tocar en Venezuela por las críticas al

Él era del pueblo de mi padre, Algeciras. Yo tenía
relación con sus sobrinos y con su hermano. Me
llamó porque a sus hijas les gustaba mi música,
y yo creo que en el fondo a él también le gustaba. Venía muchas veces a casa a escuchar lo que
había hecho y siempre me decía «tú eres un músico que canta, no eres una de esas vedettes que
hay por ahí» [risas], porque él pensaba que había
muchas vedettes en la música pop. Y tiene razón.
En Sirope hay menos aires ﬂamencos que en
otros discos.
Quizá menos obvios, sí, pero la forma de frasear
mía es ﬂamenca. Cuando yo le pongo mi música
a un ﬂamenco sabe que cuando cierro una frase
lo estoy haciendo donde lo haría un ﬂamenco.
¿Se permite caprichos de estrella?
No. Lo que ocurre es que hay cosas… Por ejemplo, cuando publican el rider de una gira la gente
piensa que eres prácticamente un esquizofrénico. Pides 20 huevos duros, 20 sándwiches de
atún… Claro, pero es que si tienes a veinte tíos
cargando y descargando pides 20 de todo. Normalmente en mi camerino hay fruta, cerveza,
coca-cola... Lo normal. Pasas muchas horas allí,
viene gente… Pero a medida que va pasando el
tiempo cada vez necesito menos cosas.
Ya han pasado casi 25 años, pero hubo un momento, al principio de su carrera, en que la fama
le superó.
Era muy joven. De repente, pasé de poder salir
tranquilamente a la calle a encontrarme con que
llegaba a un sitio y todo el mundo me miraba y
comentaba. El éxito crea envidia, y hay gente que
estropea la envidia, porque es muy bonita cuando la maneja un sabio, pero cuando la maneja un
torpe la convierte en odio. Era muy difícil, y me
fui a Sanlúcar a refugiarme. Me encerré en una
casita y, poco a poco, fui entendiendo y sacando
la cabeza. Y ahora, lo que me echen.

He was from my father’s town, Algeciras. I knew his nephews and his
brother. He called me because his daughters liked my music, and I
think that, deep inside, he also liked it. He often came to my house to
listen to what I had done and he always said “You’re a real singer, not
like these prima donnas out there,” [laughs] because he thought there
were a lot of prima donnas in pop music. And he was right.
On Sirope, there are less ﬂamenco airs than on other albums.
Perhaps they are less obvious, yes. But my way of singing is very ﬂamenco. When I play my music for a ﬂamenco artist, they know that I
ﬁnish my lines where a ﬂamenco artist would.
Do you allow yourself any indulgences as a star?
No. What happens is, there are some things... for example when they
publish the rider for a tour people think you’re practically a schizophrenic. You ask for 20 boiled eggs, 20 tuna sandwiches... Of course,
if you have 20 guys loading and unloading, you order 20 of everything.
Normally, in my dressing room, there’s fruit, beer, coca-cola... the
usual. You spend a lot of time there, people visit. But as time goes by, I
need less and less.
25 years have passed, but there was a moment at the start of your career when fame got the better of you.
I was very young. Suddenly, I went from being able to walk down the
street quietly to everybody looking at me and talking to me. Success creates jealousy, and there are people that go beyond jealousy, because in
the hands of a wise person it’s ﬁne but when it’s somebody clumsy, it
turns into hate. It was very diﬃcult and I went to Sanlúcar and sought
sanctuary. I stayed in a small house and, little by little, began to get my
head around it. Nowadays, it’s water oﬀ a duck’s back.

humanity: what will food production be like on a planet we

new solutions and there are few
better places to search for them
than the capital of Lombardy.
The theme chosen for its Expo
by this city in northern Italy was
an obvious one. Few countries
demonstrate such passion for
food and in very few is it enjoyed with such gusto. Italy’s
gastronomic culture, which for
centuries has fed oﬀ the best the
Mediterranean has to oﬀer, is
now one of the most universal
cuisines. Tradition and innovation, collaboration and ingredient adaptation: these are precisely the themes raised at Expo
2015 to respond to the world’s
food challenges.
The Expo complex, built on
the outskirts of Milan, is designed to facilitate this meeting of cultures and proposals.

by the design of Roman military camps. The main avenue or Decumano, crosses the
complex from east to west,
symbolically joining the areas
where food is produced where
it is consumed. All along this
kilometer-and-a-half stretch,
there are pavilions representing
the diﬀerent countries participating. The other main avenue,
the Cardo, runs north to south
and is shorter at only 350 meters. It is organized as a typical
Italian village, grouping together the host country’s pavilions.
Piazza Italia, the place where
Italy meets the rest of the world,
is situated at the intersection of
both. Around this grand piazza
one can ﬁnd the most important
structures such as the outdoor
theatre, the lake auditorium, the
Cascina Triulza (a Lombardian
farm that has been restored for
the event) and the Mediterranean Hill, from which you can
take in the entire complex.
This will to cooperate that underlies the philosophy behind
the Expo is also reﬂected in the
arrangement of the national
pavilions. Only about 60 of the

These nine clusters are Rice;
Cocoa and Chocolate; Coﬀee;
Fruits and Legumes; Spices; Cereals and Tubers; Bio-Mediterraneum; Islands, Sea and Food
and Arid Zones. Of course, it
almost goes without saying that
there are bars and restaurants
in each of these clusters where
you can sample these diﬀerent
cuisines and a small market to
purchase them.
In addition to the usual pavilions, there are ﬁve themed areas. The ﬁrst, Pavilion Zero, is
designed as an introduction to
the Expo and describes the

pueden degustar productos típicos, además de un pequeño mercado para adquirirlos.
A los pabellones habituales hay
que sumarles cinco áreas temáticas. La primera, Pabellón Cero,
está pensada como introducción a la Expo y describe la historia de la humanidad a través
de su relación con la comida. La
segunda es el Future Food District, el distrito de la comida del
futuro, centrado en explicar de
qué manera las nuevas tecnologías cambiarán la producción,
almacenamiento, distribución,
adquisición y consumo de los alimentos. El Children’s Park está
pensado para que los más pequeños aprendan la importancia de
la sostenibilidad. La cuarta área
es el Biodiversity Park, que reconstruye los distintos entornos
naturales italianos. Y la quinta,
Arts & Foods –un repaso global a
la evolución de la estética y el diseño asociados con la comida–,
es la única de las áreas temáticas
que no se encuentra en el recinto
ferial, sino que tiene su sede en

Interesante, sí. Pero la ciudad
anﬁtriona, eclipsada por destinos como Roma, Florencia o Venecia, también tiene sus encantos. Y hay que conocerlos.

A lot to see, yes, but the host

Venice, has its own charms that
are not to be missed.
With a high purchase power and
one of the greatest concentrations of high-end boutiques, it
is often described as the city of
glamour. And in truth it is hard
to disagree, beginning with the
locals who eﬀortlessly turn the
city’s streets into a catwalk. But
if you really want to soak up the
luxury, it’s best to head to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a 19th
century shopping arcade that
houses the most elegant boutiques and restaurants under a
double arcade covered by a glass
dome. The Teatro alla Scala is
another must-stop on this chic
tour of the city.
Another type of luxury can be
found on a visit to the Duomo,
Milan’s cathedral, which features an impressive white marble façade and no less impressive dimensions: at 107 meters
in height and 157 in length it

Emanuele II, una galería comercial del siglo XIX que alberga las

Un lujo de otro tipo es visitar el
Duomo, la catedral de Milán, de

Hay otros muchos lugares de
interés que se pueden disfrutar después de pasar el día en la
Expo, como el palacio de los Sforza, el Cementerio Monumental o
alguna de las antiguas iglesias de
la ciudad. Visitar Milán desde el 1
de mayo hasta el 9 de octubre garantiza tanto una inmersión en
las culturas culinarias del mundo como un recorrido por una de
las ciudades más interesantes de
Italia. Dicho de otra manera: es

El 15 de mayo de 1935, 285.000 ciudadanos estrenaron el metro de
Moscú. La inauguración fue acompañada por desﬁles, bailes y conciertos.
En el Bolshói actuó un coro de 2.200 trabajadores del metropolitano y se
imprimieron miles de posters. Lazár Kaganóvich, un hombres de conﬁanza
de Stalin, fue el encargado de hacer realidad el proyecto. En reconocimiento
a su labor, el metro llevó su nombre hasta 1955. / On May 15 1935, 285,000
citizens used the ﬁrst line of the Moscow Metro. The inauguration was
accompanied by parades, dances and concerts. In the Bolshoi, a choir of

Corría 1935 y el Occidente capitalista aún
sufría las consecuencias de la Gran Depresión. Miles de desempleados hacían
cola ante los comedores de beneﬁcencia, la economía seguía paralizada, había
protestas en las calles y el futuro se presentaba muy gris. Mientras, en el Moscú
comunista, Stalin inauguraba el sistema
de transporte metropolitano más moderno, rápido y lujoso del mundo. El paraíso soviético no solo estaba al alcance
de la mano, sino que ahora ya se podía
llegar a él en metro.
Los ﬁnes propagandísticos marcaron
desde el principio la decisión de dotar
de un sistema moderno de transporte a
la capital, planteado desde tiempo de los
zares pero aplazado una y otra vez hasta
que Stalin decidió dar luz verde en 1932.
La primera de las diez líneas previstas
abrió tres años más tarde con 11 kilómetros de longitud y 13 estaciones. Mármol,

in 1932. The ﬁrst of ten planned lines
opened three years later at 11 kilometers
in length and with 13 stations. Marble,
mosaics, high ceilings, grand lights, colonnades and sculptures... the Metro was
to be a symbol of the achievements of
the Party and of the splendor and bright
future that awaited the proletariat in

estaciones se plantearon como refugios
nucleares. En la actualidad, el metro de
Moscú cuenta con 327 kilómetros y 196
estaciones, aunque está embarcado en
una ampliación que hará de él el tercero
del mundo tras los de Pekín y Shanghai.
Las nuevas estaciones siguen siendo
exquisitas, aunque no llegan a los extremos de Kievskaya, con sus mosaicos,
de Teatratnaya y sus estatuas de bronce,
Novoslobodskaya y sus vidrieras, el lujo
absoluto de la Komsomolskaya o el estilo futurista de la Mayakovskaya, todas
ellas tan dignas de visita como los demás
atractivos de la capital rusa. Porque en la

world do tourists take so many photos as they travel from one sight to the
next by metro. The reasons are obvious.

Air Europa, la compañía aérea del
Grupo Globalia, ha realizado el vuelo inaugural de su ruta entre Madrid y
Miami operada con un avión Boeing
787 Dreamliner. Una ruta que cuenta
inicialmente con cinco frecuencias semanales, aunque pasará a ser diaria a
partir del próximo mes de julio.
Una nutrida representación de la prensa
española acudió en Barajas al simbólico
corte de la cinta inaugural, que realizaron el director del Centro Europeo de
I+D de Boeing, José Enrique Román, y
el presidente de Air Europa, Juan José
Hidalgo.
«Comenzamos hoy no solo una nueva
ruta, sino también una nueva forma de
viajar con Air Europa. El 787 que nos
llevará a Miami -dijo Hidalgo- repre74
senta la última tecnología en transporte
aéreo y supone un sustancial aumento
de confort para el viajero, en términos
de espacio, de silencio y de tiempo, ya
que esta aeronave permite ahorrar 40
minutos de vuelo en cada sentido».
«Esto es solo una muestra de lo que será
la ﬂota de larga distancia de Air Europa
a partir del próximo año, cuando comiencen a llegar los 22 aviones de este
modelo que hemos adquirido -añadió-. Nuestra compañía sigue, por tanto, ﬁel a su tradición de operar siempre
con la mejor ﬂota disponible en cada
momento».
El representante de Boeing, José Enrique Román, recordó que «este avión
consume un 20 por ciento menos de
combustible y genera menos emisiones
que cualquier otra aeronave de tamaño
similar». «Desde la forma y tamaño de
las alas hasta el diseño del barquillo,
todo en él contribuye a que sea más aerodinámico», aseguró.
El Boeing 787 Dreamliner, que a partir
de ahora operará la ruta Madrid-Miami,
dispone de 252 asientos, de los cuales 18
son de clase business, totalmente convertibles en camas, y 21 de la nueva clase Premium Economy. Los billetes para
este trayecto están disponibles a partir
de 253 euros, precio ﬁnal al cliente.
Con la incorporación de este primer
787 Dreamliner, la ﬂota de Air Europa
queda formada por 46 aviones con una
media de edad de apenas cuatro años.
De ellos, 14 son Airbus 330 de larga

Dreamliner, Air Europa’s ﬂeet will be
made up of 46 aircraft with an average age of just four years. Of these, 14 are

asistencia de full handling en los aeropuertos españoles. Estas compañías son

contratos, el número de clientes de Groundforce se eleva ya a más de doscientos.
En la actualidad, está presente en 15 aeropuertos españoles, entre ellos, Madrid,
Barcelona, Bilbao, Sevilla, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Mallorca y Valencia. El año
pasado realizó un total de 142.656 operaciones con más de 40 millones de

organismos de la Administración Pública
española. El director general de Halcón
Viajes, José María Hoyos, y su Director
de Ventas Nacional, David Ballesteros,
han ﬁrmado recientemente en el
Ministerio de Hacienda el pertinente
contrato, que tendrá una duración de dos
años, prorrogables un año más, por un
importe de 70 millones de euros anuales.
Como se recordará, Halcón Viajes se
adjudicó el pasado mes de enero los
cuatro lotes del llamado mega contrato
de la CORA (Comisión para la Reforma
de las Administraciones Públicas),
sacados a concurso por el Estado. Un
concurso que permitirá a las arcas
públicas reducir en 25,6 millones anuales
los gastos de viajes de la Administración.

AT THE FLAGSHIP LONDON HEATHROW EXCLUSIVE LOUNGE,
SkyTeam has taken its emphasis on customer wellbeing even

The house where the writer lived with his wife Zélia Gattai is now open to the public.
Se llama Casa de Rio Vermelho. Es sencilla y luminosa,
con una pequeña piscina y un jardín. En ella vivieron
más de 40 años Jorge Amado y su esposa, tras comprarla en 1960 gracias al dinero de los derechos para el
cine de la obra Gabriela, clavo y canela. Y en ella, bajo
un árbol de mango, reposan hoy las cenizas de ambos.
Trece años después de la muerte del escritor, la casa ha
reabierto sus puertas convertida en un moderno museo
interactivo donde los visitantes (4.000 en los cuatro
primeros meses) redescubren su trabajo, las obras de
arte que atesoraba en ella y se hacen una idea del lugar
donde escribió buena parte de su obra y recibió a ilustres ﬁguras como Pablo Neruda, Tom Jobim, Roman
Polanski, Jack Nicholson, Jean Paul Sartre o Simone
de Beauvoir. / It is called Casa de Rio Vermelho; a simple and bright house with a small swimming pool and

«I had always wanted to, but it was
only ﬁve years ago that I took my ﬁrst
dive. I loved it and I began to dive
regularly and take courses. Two years
ago, I became a diving instructor. I
now combine my work as a cabin crew
member with the courses I give at the
Mar Balear Dive Centre (marbalear.
com) in Port Adriano (Mallorca).
Being a marine biologist, what I
like best is using diving as a tool for
environmental education. Every year
I go on a big diving holiday and one of
the places that has most impressed
me is the Galapagos Islands because
of the diversity of life in the waters
there. In Spain, one of the best diving
areas is El Toro Island Marine Reserve,
off the coast of Calviá, Mallorca.
It’s a shame that overﬁshing,
pollution and other environmentally
unfriendly human activities have
meant that life in the seas has
decreased signiﬁcantly».

«Siempre lo había querido, pero solo
hace cinco años que hice mi primera
inmersión. Me encantó. Y empecé a
bucear y a hacer cursos. Así llegué,
hace dos años, a ser instructora de
buceo. Y ahora compagino mi trabajo
como tripulante de cabina con los
cursos que imparto en el Mar Balear
Dive Center (marbalear.com), en Port
Adriano (Mallorca). Como soy bióloga
marina, lo que más me gusta es poder
utilizar el buceo como herramienta de
educación medioambiental. Cada año
realizo un gran viaje de buceo y uno de
los lugares que más huella me ha dejado
son las islas Galápagos, por la cantidad
de vida de sus aguas. En España, una
de las mejores inmersiones se hace en
la Reserva Marina de la Isla del Toro,
en la costa de Calvià, en Mallorca.
Es una pena que la sobrepesca, la
contaminación y otras actividades
humanas poco respetuosas hayan
hecho que la vida en los mares haya
disminuido de forma signiﬁcativa».
