PARISH INFORMATION
BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at 1:30 PM on the Second Sunday of the month in Spanish and the
Third Sunday of the month in English. Parents need to contact the rectory to set up an appointment to make arrangements
for the baptism of their child and register for the baptismal class which is held the First Tuesday of each month in Spanish
and the Second Tuesday of each month in English. Baptisms in Vietnamese can be arranged by contacting Fr. Vincent.
EL BAUTISMO: El sacramento del Bautismo es celebrado a la 1:30 PM cada Segundo domingo del mes en español y
cada tercer domingo del mes en Inglés. Los padres del niño/a deben pedir una cita con la rectoría para ponerse de acuerdo
con requisitos para el bautismo y también inscribirse para la charla pre bautismal que se lleva acabo cada primer martes
del mes en español y cada segundo martes del mes en ingles. Los bautismos en vietnamita pueden ser arreglados con el
Padre Vicente.

The above headline appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer last
Sunday. And after I read the article about these young people, who
had every reason to live, taking their own lives, I thought not only
schools, but parishes need to “renew their efforts to prevent the loss
of lives full of promise.” I was especially struck to see the casket of
Madison Holleran, a student-athlete at the University of
Pennsylvania, being carried out of her Catholic Church one month
ago. This pretty and smart woman who seemed to “have it all” was
going through a difficult time, receiving counseling, but decided to
end her life by jumping off a building. As her father said in the
paper: “You can’t really understand why a girl who seemingly has
everything going for her would want to end it.”
It seems that Madison Holleran’s profile of a suicide victim is a
very common one, especially for college students. Having 10
nieces and nephews myself, two in college presently, I am
concerned, with their parents, for their well-being. And being the
pastor of a parish that has many young adults, I am equally
concerned for their well-being. And that is why our parish and all
parishes need to renew our efforts to reach out to our young people.
All young people need to know that their parish is their extended
family. As family, as brothers and sisters in our Lord, we care for
one another, we look out for one another. The newspaper lists 10
Warning Signs for Suicide. The common denominator with these
signs is a change in behavior. When a young person begins to act
differently and does things or says things not normally done or said,
a red flag is being waved. We need to respond.
Besides an excellent school and religious education program, our
parish has a Youth Group that meets every Tuesday evening. Father
Viviano is in the process of forming a Young Adult Group for the
parish as well. Our Out of School Time is presently running a seven
week program entitled Strengthening Families. We have Boy
Scouts and Girl Scouts in our parish. Yes, there are many
opportunities for our young people to be involved in our parish.
Please encourage your children or grandchildren to be involved.
And perhaps, most importantly, please bring your children to
church with you. Encourage your older children to stay connected
to their parish. Remind them to be a part of their parish and receive
the sacraments regularly. Both, the Eucharist and Reconciliation or
Confession, are sacraments of healing. These sacraments supply the
grace of God to situations that initially can seem hopeless. God’s
grace works in conjunction with counseling or therapy to lift a
person out of a state of despair or depression.
As a family, may we continue to reach out to our young people
who are going through a difficult time. If there is anything that I or
the parish staff can do, please let me know. If there is another
program or activity that our parish could begin, please contact me.
And may we always work together to prevent the loss of lives of
promise.

En la segunda lectura, san Pablo distingue
la sabiduría del mundo de la sabiduría de
Dios. La primera tiende a encontrar su
fuerza en el poder, mientras que la
segunda en la gracia de aquel que guía
nuestros pasos. Jesús en el Evangelio
afirma que no viene a abolir la ley sino a
llevarla a su plenitud. En este contexto, las
instrucciones del maestro nos ayudan a ir
más allá de la "letra" para comprender
mejor el sentido de nuestras acciones.
Jesús no quiere que vivamos del
"reduccionismo" teológico o moral que nos
impide reflexionar sobre su palabra en
nuestras vidas. Él nos invita a reconocer en
el "otro" la presencia de Dios, que pide
amor y perdón por encima del
resentimiento y del odio.

khôn ngoan với những người toàn thiện, mà

Nhưng chúng tôi thuyết sự khôn ngoan đầy
nhiệm mầu của Thiên Chúa vẫn được giấu

muôn thuở để làm nên sự hiển vinh của chúng
tôi. Sự khôn ngoan đó, không một ai trong các
vua chúa thế trần đã biết tới: vì giá thử nhận
biết, hẳn họ đã không đóng đinh Chúa sự hiển
vinh. Nhưng chúng tôi rao giảng như lời đã
chép: "Sự mắt chưa từng thấy, tai chưa từng
nghe, và lòng người cũng chưa từng mơ ước
tới, đó là tất cả những điều Thiên Chúa đã làm
cho những ai yêu mến Người". Bởi chưng
Thiên Chúa đã mạc khải điều đó cho chúng tôi
do Thánh Thần của Người. Thật vậy, Thánh
Thần thấu suốt mọi sự, cả những điều thâm

họ tiến thân trong pháp luật của Chúa. Phước đức

trước mặt ngươi nước và lửa, ngươi muốn cái gì,

sống và sự chết, sự lành và sự dữ, họ thích thứ nào,
thì được thứ ấy. Bởi chưng, Thiên Chúa đầy khôn
