There are eight parishes in Sutton Deanery, and each parish is invited to send two representatives to the Pastoral Council which organises various events (such as the Day of Reflection for all lay ministers held here at the beginning of Lent) on behalf of all Catholics living in the deanery. Since the announcement was made in this parish on Sunday, one person has expressed an interest – is there anyone else? CHURCH CLEANERS: ‘MARTHAS’ WANTED! In the USA church cleaners are called ‘Marthas’ after St. Martha, who did all the work when Jesus called, while her sister Mary just sat there! [Luke 10:38-42] The parish requires more people to assist in tidying the church each week, and undertaking light cleaning duties – dusting and vacuuming. This is normally done on Friday mornings, before or after Mass, but Tuesdays and Thursdays are equally acceptable, and so are Saturdays. A couple of people have kindly volunteered since the announcement last weekend; at the moment, the rota anticipates a duty once a month, but the more people that step forward, the less there is to do! CHILDRENS LITURGY: HELPERS WANTED! The parish runs a successful Childrens Liturgy programme in term-time for primary school-age children The children leave the church, during the 9.30am Mass on Sunday, before the Penitential Rite and return just after the Offertory. More helpers will be needed before the summer if this good work is to continue. A DBS [Disclosure and Barring Service] (originally CRB – Criminal Records Bureau) is essential and will be undertaken for all applicants. Please send an email or write a note to Fr. Julian (leaving a contact telephone number) or speak to any of the current volunteers.
