• Origins of the Ukulele
• The ukulele dates back to the 19th century and is the direct
descendant of a Portuguese instrument called the machete.
• The Machete was taken by ship to Hawaii where it rapidly
gained popularity.
• The name “Ukulele” comes from two Hawaiian words “Uku”
Flea and “Lele” Jump.
