Through the GIA news, we intend to update the members and all those interested, on the activities of Gas Industries Association. Gas Industries Association organizes its 2nd Safety Seminar on June 05, 2014 It is a pleasure to mention that Gas Industries Association organised its second safety seminar which was held on June 05, 2014 at Radisson Blu Hotel Chennai City Centre, in Chennai. As you are already aware, . in January 2013 in Delhi. Both the events were a the first seminar on Oxygen Safety, was held last year grand success. The Safety seminar – 2014 on ‘Safety in storage, handling and transportation of cryogenic liquids’, held on June 05, 2014, was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. T. R. Thomas, Chief Controller of Explosives, Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation. The program commenced with the opening remarks by Mr. Siddharth Jain, President of GIA. He welcomed the large gathering which included delegates from the industry, hospitals and major transporters involved with the storage, handling and transportation of cryogenic liquids. It was a pleasure that Mr. R. Kannan, President of AIIGMA, also attended the seminar as guest of honour. Secretary General of Asia Industrial Gases Association, Mr. Milan Sarkar, represented AIGA. Members of the Governing Council (GIA) viz., Mr. Alain Cottereau, Mr. Anuj Sharma and Mr. Moloy Banerjee, also graced the occasion. E Mail: [email protected] Website: www.gasassociation.in Inside Cryogenic gases, in liquid state under pressure, provide an efficient way of storage, handling & transportation of these gases. However, the particular properties of cryogenic liquids necessitate certain precautions to be taken and rules to be followed. The objective of this program was to spread safety in storage, handling and transportation of cryogenic liquids. The seminar was well attended by a house full gathering of about 140. It was a pleasure to find the participants engaged in lively discussions with the panel of experts during the Q & A sessions. Activities to make GIA more visible and useful to various stake holders. ************************************************************************************************************************ Mr. Prabuddha Dhar takes over as new Chairman of Technical Committee in place of Mr. Milan Sarkar who moves to AIGA as its Secretary General Mr. Chandan Dey is the new representative of Praxair on the technical committee Mr. Milan Sarkar, who has been representing Praxair India on the technical committee of GIA as its chairman, was deputed to Asia Industrial Gases Association (AIGA) as its Secretary General. Mr. Prabuddha Dhar of Linde India Ltd. took over as Chairman of technical committee in place of Mr. Milan Sarkar. The change took effect from 01-04-2014. GIA appreciates the excellent progress made by the technical committee under the leadership of Mr. Milan Sarkar and congratulates Mr. Dhar on his appointment as Chairman of the technical committee. AIGA Board 2012- 2014 An update on Asia Industrial Gases Association (AIGA) President Mok Kwong Weng (Air Liquide) Vice President Vacant Secretary Saw Choon Seong (Air Products) Changes in AIGA . Mr. Mok Kwong Weng who was the Vice President earlier, stepped up to the position of President in place of Ms. Anne Roby who had to relinquish the position as she returned to the U.S. to take up a new appointment. The Board also welcomed two new members viz., Mr. Werner Hickel of Messer China and Mr. John Panikar of Praxair Asia. The above new appointments and changes were seen at the AIGA Board meeting on February 19, 2014. Treasurer Mok Kwong Weng - President AIGA’s new Secretary General Atsuhiro Fujita (Taiyo Nippon Sanso) Members Mr. Milan Sarkar, formerly with Praxair India and Chairman of GIA’s technical committee, was appointed as Secretary General of AIGA in February 2014, in place of Mr. Low Wing Keong. GIA thanks Mr. Low for the support rendered by him and congratulates Mr. Milan Sarkar on his new role.
