SPECIAL RECOGNITION Dr. Watson recognized the School Board Members as January is “school board recognition/appreciation month”. • The Board recognized the following: Ø MMS Art Teachers Lynda French and Nicole Bowers for the work on the Alternative Gift Market. The project is a cumulative community service event for the Art Club and a large number of students and Core Advisory classes. Ø The following MHS music students received all state honors: • All-­‐State BAND: Nicole Gieselman, Sarah Pham, Kentoc Aizawa, Dakota Cavanaugh, Jacob Hemenway and Nate Crain • All-­‐State CHOIR: Jaydon Evans, Aleq Goerzen and Laura Peck GIFTS • The Board approved the following donations: Ø Dave & Donna Viola donated $150 to MHS Carpentry Class. The money is to help with the purchase of sheetrock finishing tools. Ø Ms. Vetter, MMS Literature teacher, received $720.83 from DonorsChoose.org to purchase books for students to check out and read. Ø Donations to MHS Vocal Music Department: § Freddy’s Frozen Custard -­‐ $100 § Four Season’s Realtors -­‐ $51 § Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church -­‐ $25 § Stewart’s Sports & Awards -­‐ $50 § The Law Offices of Torrance R Parkins, LLC -­‐ $25 § Home State Bank -­‐ $50 § Mary Houghton -­‐ $250 Ø Donations to the following from Hospira: • Think Pink Event -­‐ $500 • Destination Imagination -­‐ $350 • After Prom activities -­‐ $100 • MHS Senior recognition breakfast -­‐ $300 REGULAR MEETING The Board of Education met at 7:00 pm for its regularly scheduled meeting. The board approved the agenda (with the deletion of item 7.1) for the meeting as well as the consent items. The consent agenda items included: Personnel, MHS Activity Fund Reports, MMS Activity Fund Report, and CCC Recommendation-­‐Production Welding. REPORTS • C3 with District Strategic Learning Plan Dr. Watson shared results from the Aspire testing students just completed. The report showed the student’s strengths and weaknesses; discussion was held about the interventions the district will do in order to help students be successful. • Update from Head Start Ms. Stoss shared information on the IGDI’s data; the five test areas and results from fall to winter. The assessment is based on the classroom teacher and other personnel in the classroom in order to meet the needs of students. • Construction of New Facilities Mr. Anderson update the Board on the following: WES: •

Back fill and flooring OLD BUSINESS • New Superintendent Search Discussion was held on the procedure that will take place for the Superintendent search. A meeting will be held on February 5th with various groups gathering insights and ideas about the desired traits and characteristics of our new superintendent. The session will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete. NEW BUSINESS • Fiscal Year 2014 Audit The Board accepted the Fiscal Year 2014 Audit as presented by Mr. Ruder. • KASB Board Policy Review Dr. Watson discussed the KASB policy review with the Board. The Board accepted the changes in board policies as presented by Dr. Watson. • Addition of Instructional Aide for LES 2nd grade Dr. Watson discussed the large numbers of students in the 2nd grade at Lincoln. The Board approved the addition of an instructional aide for Lincoln’s 2nd grade with funds coming from contingency. • Seek bids for new pole vault pit The Board accepted the motion to seek bids for a pole vault pit for McPherson High School as presented by Mr. Backhus.
