Online editor (contract/freelance) for IT Intranet at large international R&D organisation, based in Darmstadt (EJR-Quartz BV) EJR-Quartz BV is looking for a freelance/self-employed online editor (parttime) to work onsite at our client’s location in in Darmstadt (D). Requirements The contract requires a native-level English online editor with journalistic writing skills and proven editorial experience. The post involves writing for the client’s IT Intranet, so familiarity with international organisations and their structures and activities is an advantage. Diplomacy and discretion are important. Familiarity with online publishing tools and multimedia is also required. A working knowledge of German would be an asset. IT Intranet Reporting to the IT Internal Communication Officer, the overall task of the editor is to bring IT matters closer to staff and contractors in an understandable and approachable way. The Online Editor is required to support the IT Communication Officer in preparing and maintaining content on the IT Intranet, as well as editing other IT communication material (posters, brochures/flyers). Tasks include: Seek out, draft and obtain approval of intranet articles in English on current IT topics. Produce original news articles on IT matters in nativelevel English, in a lively, journalistic style. Conduct interviews by phone or in person. Ensure editorial quality of all material published. Ensure all published material is compliant with the client’s editorial standards and approval processes. Publish articles on line using an in-house enterprise publishing system (IPS). Editing articles drafted by other editors or staff. Liaise with other Intranet editors to ensure consistency with previous articles on the subject or on-going external communication activities. Editing other written material such as flyers, posters, etc. Output Typical output will be several articles/week, plus other editorial work as specified above. Skills Native-level English, experience in (web) publishing Mature personality, tactful when dealing with managers and experts Expertise in the use of web publishing tools and multimedia. The following skills are considered to be assets: Experience in communicating technical topics in an approachable way Knowledge of large international technical organisations Knowledge of current enterprise-level IT practices, issues and technologies Spoken German would be an asset. Please note this is an editorial/journalistic post, not a programming one. It is a part-time contract post onsite at the client’s location. The level of effort is approx. 13 hours a week. Contractual matters The successful candidate will be contracted directly by EJR-Quartz and based at our client’s location in Darmstadt. The position requires the contractor to hold (or acquire) self-employed/freelance work status in Germany.
