From the Desk of Andy Jung…
Families face many challenges. Most families have
their hands full with busy schedules, individual challenges
and family dynamics. It is just about all they can do to
make it day to day with some sense of sanity!
Some families face additional challenges than most.
Families with children who have exceptional needs deal
with everyday life plus the additional stress of managing
the special circumstances. The exceptional needs could be
physical, emotional, or both. Autism, Attention Deficit
Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), and Down Syndrome are
just a few of the many exceptional needs children and their
families face on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, most churches are ill equipped to
handle children who have exceptional needs. Most
churches do little to support the parents and siblings of
those with exceptional needs. In defense of these churches,
it is a large commitment on the part of the church to
provide ministries and support for the children and their
families with exceptional needs. Consequently, many
families who need special care are often neglected and
forgotten by the Christian community.
At First Baptist, we want to be a place where
families can come and be a part of the congregation in
every way. We want to have in place processes and
foundations to not only minister to the children or youth
with exceptional needs but also minister and support the
parents and siblings. We are looking to put a lead team
together to begin studying the needs and processes of
integrating families with exceptional needs within our
church family. This lead team will work to establish the
foundation for this special area of ministry and make
recommendations to the deacons and the rest of the church
family. If you are interested in being a part of this lead
team, please contact Michael Furr or me as soon as
possible. Our hope is to begin meeting in January 2015.
(continued)
This Sunday, we continue “Matters of the Heart” by
looking at how we deal with loss and disappointment. We
look to the life of Moses and the disappointment he must
have felt when he could not experience the Promised Land
as was promised to the Israelites. Let’s consider how we
can trust God when life doesn’t go as planned.
See you on Sunday! Andy
THANK YOU
Once again First Baptist has demonstrated her ability to
express God’s love. I am very thankful for each expression of
love for my family at my father’s death. Thank you to each
one who sent a card or email expressing your sympathy and
prayer support. It has been a difficult few weeks for my
family. However, Dad is at peace now. First Baptist
continues to have a very special place in our heats.
